Only a select few of us write because we enjoy it. Every one else needs to be rewarded with attention. I don't agree with that mindset but I understand it.

I know my own thoughts, and I don't need to be near a computer or make them coherent for others. I write because I like to have a conversation - it furthers everyone's understanding of a subject. But if no one is responding, I'm more than happy to keep my thoughts to myself. Its got less to do with attention-seeking and more to do with education-seeking.

How is keeping your thoughts to yourself education seeking? You have knowledge but you don't want to part with it because you feel no one is responding but they ARE reading it.

Silent Hill 2 Spoiler for Akira Yamaoka - Love Psalm:
Silent Hill 2, apart from being one of my favourite games ever, also has one of my favourite soundtracks ever. The soundtrack album might actually be among my favourites of all time too, and this track is one of the reasons why. Just such a well-crafted instrumental, fine-tuned to perfection from the bare bones of the rhythm to the guitar that kinda wraps itself around it all. Love this one to bits. Final Fantasy IX Spoiler for Nobuo Uematsu - Rose Of May:
And this one just exudes a kind of epic, intensely visual and operatic quality that you'd struggle to find elsewhere. At least to me anyway. Compared to other Final Fantasy soundtracks, this one is actually kinda pedestrian. This is still one of my favourite tracks ever though. Metal Gear Solid Spoiler for KCE Japan Sound Team - The Best Is Yet To Come:
Simply one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. And hearing it in its entirety over the credits once you've finally finished the game just really ramps up the effect it has on you. Doom 3 Spoiler for [main theme]:
And I just love how this theme gets you totally pumped to kick arse in-game as you hear it over the opening menu screen. There's a whole bunch more, but all these spring to mind first. Good to see this journal's still going as strong as I remember it |

I love the Silent Hill one, it's very well thought-out for video game music and like you said, a well-crafted instrumental. And that Metal Gear Solid one is just so beautiful... I can't believe I haven't heard that before! Thanks for posting it. |

...and speaking of video game music, here is me singing 'Dovahkiin' from Skyrim. This is me just messing around basically, I was going to do a full-scale properly recorded cover of the full song with harmonies and incorporating the Morrowind theme... but that never happened! :P
I just love the way Malukah does this song so I was inspired by her. Also, mods, I don't know if it's possible to change the title of my journal to 'Astronomer's Musical Meanderings' to reflect my username change? If not, that's cool, I understand, I can create a new journal in time |

Hi Latstronomer! I just wanted to contribute my favorite video game tunes also, especally since Bulldog already jumped on that and we've been talking about games in the "top 5 games" thread.
I'll give you a few of my more random favorites... So ethereal! Loved these two tracks from the PC version. The best part was that the CD-ROM played like a CD if you stuck it in a Walkman! I love this haunting piece, which is so awesome at the end of a game. And this is probably my favorite track off of any game soundtrack ever. I also strongly suggest you talk to Psychedub Dude, too, if you want any other recommendations, because he also has great taste in video game music. |
