One of the recurring themes in this tunes is "annihiliation" both in lyrical content and sound. Liquid Stranger drops a beat that's larger than life on this stellar electronic track. Like many of Liquid Stranger's tracks this one contains audio samples from video games, including several clips from Fallout 3, a popular post-apocalyptic action role-playing game. The post apocalyptic theme only adds to the track, supplementing the dark overtones that are already set in place by the slow, heavy, grinding beat. This creates a furious mixture of sound, resulting in complete annihilation of your face and inevitably, complete deterioration of your soul. Ok, so maybe not quite that last part, but it certainly has that feel to it. Bottom line, this is the heaviest electronic track on my playlist at the moment, and it's really satisfying my ever growing bass-head craving right now. So let's crank it up until you feel the annihilation in your chest. Enjoy.

Ok so, this journal is getting kind of predictable. Yeah, the recurring themes are beneficial to the overall quality of the journal, but it's time for a curve-ball. So zip it up perverts... it's time for a movie review. ]]

**** p.s. I did the best I could to avoid spoilers, there shouldn't be anything in the review that you wouldn't know from the trailer. ****

Movie of The Day: Machete by Robert Rodriguez

OK, well... I'm not even sure to start with this movie. It all started with the fictional trailer to Grindhouse (2007), the into to Planet Terror. I mean, how can it be bad? Just look at that cast? And the director? One of the best of our time. Danny Trujo plays Machete, an ex-federale who is hired by a mysterious political type (Jeff Fahey) to assassinate the senator of Texas (Robert Deniro). He accepts the job and upon attempting to completing the task, it's discovered that he has been set-up. Machete's tale of revenge for the loss of his family and friends starts with his namesake, the machete. Machete wields the weapon of his name throughout the entire movie, using it quite liberally, much to the pleasure of the audience the movie will attract.

This movie does one integral thing right, it stays true to it's roots. The trailer = the movie. If you went into this movie wanting and/or expecting it to be just like the trailer, then you will be pleased. Rodriguez and crew do a great job preserving the cheesy action-oriented nature of the idea, and minus the choppy, cheap, error ridden Grindhouse film aging techniques; the film is verbatim from the trailer. All the scenes from the trailer are represented, and they do a GREAT job of filling in the gaps. Rodriguez did a wonderful job on this film, and I recommend seeing it if you're remotely interested in any of his previous works, or if you laughed at the trailer. ****, I would even recommend seeing it if you've laughed at Steven Seagal in the last 10 years.

Bottom Line, this movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing, and sitting on the edge of your seat most of the time. You couldn't ask someone to make a movie out of a two minute trailer any better than this.

Crash's Recommendation - See It!!!! - 8.5/10

Not a classic by any means, but a cult classic (and possibly a series) has just been born.

Ha I just got back from seeing it... had me laughing the whole time man. I'm a huge fan of Robert Rodriguez and it absolutely fulfilled my expectations, you're absolutely right. The cast is just ridiculous, there's so many people in there that are just completely random. Spot on review though keep up the journal!

Dude, just wanted to report back about Liquid Stranger... He has some seriously good Dubstep. Just found out about his album The Private Riot (2010) and getting it now. I'll probably be reviewing it in my journal soon. Just wanted to thank ya again for bringing this guy to my attention.

Let me start today's entry by thanking everyone who's been reading this damned thing. I hope you guys enjoy at least some of the stuff I post in here.

@ Freebase, I'm glad you like the Liquid Stranger. I'm recently getting into his stuff as well, I just got Private Riot last week and I like it so far. It has some not so good tracks on it, but a handful of banging ones to make up for it. I'd also like to thank you for introducing me to Dubstep, I'm definitely liking a lot of that right now. I'm glad our recommendations have been mutually beneficial.

So, as mentioned a few days ago, I took a trip to the Indian Casino last night... that was a mistake. Upside, we had free buffet tickets, and that was pretty awesome. Downside, those ****ers don't pay out worth a ****, I'll stick to Vegas from now on... I'm okay with driving the extra 4 hours. Other than that, just trying to enjoy the weekend and get my homework done. Well then, I suppose it's time for some music.

Song of The Day: Dinner With A Gypsy by He Is Legend

Now I'm not sure where to even start when it comes to classifying this band my a genre or sub genre, so I'm just going to call them Rock/Metal for the sake of ease. But I can tell you one thing for sure, if you don't have this bands first LP 'I Am Hollywood' in your collection, then you need to sit and think on that for a while. He Is Legend does some very interesting things on this track, as they tend to do with a lot of their music. The guitar work and overall quality of instrumentals on this track really stand out to me and give a great example of what the band is capable of. The bass-line on this track is a top-notch head nodder, a trait which is not uncommon in He Is Legend tracks. Overall the mood of this song is very laid back, yet with up front and direct delivery. A perfect song on a day like today it seems. Enjoy.

Oh Lord, haven't listened to that album in so long. He Is Legend are definitely not a band that can be pigeonholed.

Btw, I just found out that they're on hiatus. Shame.

Today started off in the worst of ways, praying to the porcelain gods. That's right kiddos, I got ****ing wasted last night, and I paid for it throughout most of the day. My fish Marlo finally died after about a week of being sick, so that kind of sucks, he was a cool fish. I went today to pick up a new fish, I got another male betta and his name is Giovanni, he's quite a swimmer. Today was also filled with an epic saga of boo boo's recent banning, which we're not going to touch on very heavily on, there's already a thread on that. But it made for quite the discussion. I've also been schooling some co-workers in Madden '11, they obviously hadn't heard that I'm the sick nasty when it comes to the Madden series, although the new game has some ****ed up new features and they also trashed some older really cool ones.

So today we're going to check out some really cool Alt. Country/Southern Rock, one of my favorite groups that got recommended to me about 3 years ago from my friend Joel. I never really picked up on the awesomeness of it until about a year ago when I gave it a few more listens. But, enough of this, time for some tunage.

Song of The Day: Never Gonna Change by Drive-By Truckers

This is a really great song (the video is pretty nice as well) from one of my favorite Alt. Country acts Drive-By Truckers. Drive-By Truckers are a six-piece that utilizes the "three axe attack", a technique in which a band will play with 3, rather than the traditional 1-2 guitarists. The band manages a really great sound/style combo that keeps them interesting on several levels. Yes, they are a country group, but don't get them confused with your contemporary CMT/Radio act, they are here to play good music. DBT brings a great traditional country sound into a new level of lyrical content and songwriting. Utilizing their roots and a contemporary approach to create a sound unlike anybody else out right now. A great track from a band that has many to chose from, I recommend if you haven't checked them out already, to do so. Song is from the album, "The Dirty South", I would recommend starting there. Enjoy.

As some of you may have noticed, the name of my little journal here has changed. It is now Crash's Daily Reader, instead of that other "off-the-top-of-my-head" garbage. I feel like this name captures the actual point of the journal a lot more, I like this thing to be daily, or at lest close to it. The original idea for the thread was to just have a dumping ground for random **** I wanted to post, but I think a daily entry style journal/blog suits me much better. The thought of trashing the whole journal and starting over had crossed my mind, but there's some good posts thoughout this thread I would like to keep, so we'll just keep it and move on.

Yesterday was one of my favorite days of the year, NFL opening Sunday. A day completely devoted to American footbal, beer, and food. It's exactly what I needed at the time. I look forward to a great and exciting season of football this year, and who knows, maybe my team will actually make a run for the championship. *fingers crossed*

So as I've said before, my new found love for dubstep and ever growing curiosity into the the entire EDM scene is keeping me pretty full on with new music to explore, today we're going to delve into some more dubstep. But don't get your club clothes on quite chet young en', this is different...

Song of The Day: Cityscape by Thrive

Wow, you're going to wanna make sure you have a subwoofer for this one. Computer speakers and earbuds aren't going to cut it here. This track has some serious bass, the way I like it, subsonic. This is a refreshing style of dubstep from an artist I personally look forward to hearing more from in the future. The laid back nature of this track really works well for it's overall quality. Everything is on the back beat, creating a slow, steady effect that drives the track nicely. The mids and highs add great layering and keep the track moving along at a nice pace, the track is 7 and a half minutes long, though it doesn't feel like it. One of those tracks you don't want to end, enjoy.

Heh heh...my exciting moment at work used to be when I got to sterilize stuff in a massive, mechanized autoclave that opened and sealed itself. It let me fantasize I was in a space craft sometime in the future. I was in awe of its power. So I can understand your fascination with that machine shredder of yours.

Crash, you may not realize this, but I actually am a huge fan of some dubstep songs. Like Freebase and Nonsubmissive, I like this one you posted quite a bit. I enjoy the aggressive, ominous feeling of annihilation in dubstep songs. It's probably a good thing that I find an outlet for my aggression in dubstep so that I don't start eating people!
