For Demonoid:
Triana - El Patio (1975) Flamenco Prog Rock eh? There were many elements I really liked to this album. There is some really great guitar work on Se De Un Lungar and the outro on the album opener Abre La Puerta is excellent. It many instances the flamenco playing greatly enhances the music and couple that with some nice Mellotron work, you have some solid prog. However at times the vocals in tandem with the Flamenco reminded me of spanish buskers in a restaurant (!) and let the album down at times. This vocal technique also makes some tracks sound very similar which is a shame as I really like many parts of the album. Although is does sound dated it's still a solid album despite it's flaws. 6.5/10

For Piss Me Off:
Fucked Up - The Chemistry Of Modern Life (2008) I had this album before it was requested to be reviewed but I had only played it once and was a little nonplussed. Upon another listen it grew a little more. A noisy Punk album produced by Phil Spector would be an apt description for this as it reveals different layers each time you hear it. This is no ordinary Punk album there a couple of ambient instrumentals and the guitar tracks are rumoured to have been layered up to 70 times! There is a lot of Musique Concrete on here too which can be disconcerting at times. When you are expecting a barrage of typical heavy Punk riffs and get something a little more reasoned and measured you are thrown. It's not a difficult album to listen to it all and that first listen was so- so but as I said, that second listen made me sit up and take notice more. It's definitely an album that will need repeated listens to fully embrace the soundscape and sometimes these are the best albums. 7/10

For Fasho:
Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests Of Josh Ritter (2007) Can I call this album frustrating? HR is a singer songwriter who peddles a commercial Folk Pop sort of vibe and this is why it's frustrating. There are some really great introspective and melodious passages of play on the album which then are forgotten with the next bland, safe middle of the road track comes along. If he dispensed with trying to be so radio friendly, then we may be able to hear an artist with genuine talent and with something to say. I have listened to the album on a couple of occasions and it certainly gets better but there is far too much blandness for me to remember many tracks. 5/10
