I knew you'd either love it or find it completely unnesesary at times. On a first listen through the use of instruments and experimentation felt almost vulgar to me, but I have to agree it's full of class.

Well the instuments used still carry on the riffs and themes are not just put in there for the sake of virtuosity. Shame it's only 3 tracks long

Another album that I had in my collection but it needed reappraising so here goes. LRD are a Japanese Psychedelic/ Noise Rock band who use a ridiculous amount of feedback in their music and this is where there is a huge problem. 90% of the time I review albums whilst listening to it on headphones (and good ones at that). This is for 2 eeasons. The PC is situated in my living room so earlye evening is no go as far as music is concerned but mainly because I like to hear everything in the mix. Because of the terrible production the album (it is from a bootleg i think?) it actually hurts my ears to hear it. This loses cool points on the album which is a shame because it is riff heavy and quite a way ahead considering it was 1977!

But even without headphones after a couple of tracks (quite long tracks), I find myself becoming bored and turn it off. Whilst I appreciate the sonic assault of the album, I can now see why I had'nt played it a lot before. For a quick blast of white noise it is fine but not one for everyday. 6/10
Definitely not for the weak stomached but I actually think the production compliments the music style. The immense feedback doesn't really provide too many options for anything cleaner.

Thanks for the time.

Again. Trepidation was a key feature here. Not because of the music within but the context in which I should listen and review. It's a mix album and although I have many mix albums spanning many genres, choosing this album for me to review was a little puzzling.

A mix album is someone else's appropriation of music and rarely gives me an insight into the person behind the compilation, at least not for reviewing purposes. Commenting on individual tracks would be a lost cause (in the context of the thread's aim) so it will be reviewed as a cohesive whole.

Quite simply, it is one of the best mixes I have heard for a long while. I was expecting a dubstep mix and whilst I dig Dubstep, it can become tiresome after 30-40 mins. This mix floats around the Dubstep genre and manages to cram in roots Reggae, Ambient Electronica and chilled Hip Hop.

This does not mean that the eclectism saves it. Far from it. It's the cohesion and ease of listening that is by far it's best point. Not one track outstays it's welcome and not one track is unlistenable.

I appreciate that this will be an acquired taste on here but for those who revel in these genres (you know who you are) then this demands a listen. A keeper for me for sure. 8/10
I COMPLETELY missed this. Nice review, mate. I love this album. Had to force myself to listen to it out of generally negative expectations, but was most pleasantly surprised when I did. Glad you felt the same.

Hmm. Review "Flying Lotus - Los Angeles".

For Urban:

Unrest - Malcolm X Park (1988)

Now what the bloody hell do we have here? First track (the title track) kicks in. An adrenaline filled blast of Punk with ferocious drumming-excellent. Then on track 3 we get a cover of Kiss' 'Strutter' and then by track six we get some Elvis style warblings over a cow punk jangly riff. Only Urban could have supplied this. Guess what though? It works! It's got energy, attitude, a side dose of humour and a D.I.Y asthetic that sound wise perfectly complements the band.

To the casual listener it could be misrepresented as lacking focus, even overambition but that's not the point. It seems to me to be a band that just want to play music that they enjoy. It isn't eclectic for the sake of it. It delights in it's eccentricity. If only they could have dropped the Elvis warblings as I cannot stand the guy! 8.5/10
