Angry Music Elitist

I'm really tired of all the so called music "experts" trashing music they either A. Don't get or B. Don't even really listen or give a chance just because they don't like the artist. It not only ruins their credibility and makes it hard to take anything they say seriously, it also insults my intelligence. What brought me here was these "experts" (Rolling Stone magazine, Vulture and the internet busiest music nerd to name a few) trashing the new Eminem album "The Death of Slim Shady". Not saying the music on it is for everybody or even the majority of people. But the album is going to debut at number one with a bullet tomorrow, so there is obviously something there people like. I have listened to the album numerous times already and it is one of his best pieces of work period. After reading and watching their reviews ("pat on the back he tried") I couldn't understand the simplicity of their statements and generalized comments. Did they listen to same thing I did? I really wonder. Saying it's no good because he's old? Same thing he's always talking about. Ummmm yeah alright, whatever the production n hooks are top notch, the word play he spits is second to none and story he crafts is damn good. Is it vulgar n offensive, yeah but that's part of the point of it. If they had ripped him for that I would of had no problem besides the fact they have no sense of humor.

I remember same thing a few years ago when Jack White's "Fear of the Dawn" came out. There was alot lame generalized comments from people who are "music experts" (including same self music nerd I prevviously mentioned). The album imo is a sonic masterpiece. I hear new music and sounds everytime I listen to it. I feel these people just want to tear down whatever makes them feel insecure about their own self. Remind me of a famous comic book character J. Jonah Jamison in his early days, they know they'll never do anything as magical or great so they got to rip it apart or belittle it to feel better about themselves. Gets off soapbox.

Just because something is popular or sells well doesn’t mean it’s good. Most people don’t know what they’re taking about anyway. There’s this saying in my country of origin, that goes:

Billions of flies can’t be wrong - let’s eat ****

Also, please notice, that you yourself are putting up yourself as an expert or ultimate judge by saying it’s one of his best „period”, that his rhymes are „second to none”, etc

I didn’t listen to the album, and I probably won’t, so I will not share an opinion on it here, but what I don’t understand is why the reviews of some dude on the internet and a magazine that lost it’s credibility years ago anger you so much

Also also, calling Mindy a troll is rude and unnecessary. Maybe try to have good relations with people who are posting here regularly for far longer than you?

I think you should’ve made this thread in „reviews” or something. The journals part of this site are for people blogging about things, not making a one-off rant

You are correct I perhaps judged Mindy too harshly. Just seemed slightly trollish posting it "it sucked" as a response. Like someone trying to rile me up or get a reaction. So I apologize Mindy.

As a music lover it gets to me when these so called experts give obviously biased opinions on a consistent basis. They hurt the reputations of artist who have worked at their craft for most of their lives. I love music and musicians, I probably shouldn't but i take it somewhat personally. Publications like Rolling Stone have made a damn good living slagging musicians and music just because they didn't like the artist (Zeppelin anyone?). That doesn't sit square with me, never has probably never will.

Yes I put myself as a knowledgeable person on music (been listening and studying it for almost 50 years) in general, but by no means an expert. There's alot I don't know as well. *Shrugs*

It's all good! Like Mucha na Dziko mentioned, sometimes random new joins with strong opinions actually comes off as the trolling/rant.

So I match vibes, I'll use a Boxden Smiley or gif or something in a reply that may be viewed as trolling on my end too!

Also, the new Eminem didnt "suck", it's just not at the level of his previous albums. I grew up listening to every Eminem song there was. I grew out of it though since im 35 years old now. So if Im going to be jamming to a new Eminem album, it'll need to be something I enjoy. The songs on the new album were good for his style of creation nowadays but, its just not for me.

Everyone is different and that's what makes us all great! I have not grown out of MM myself and hope never too. In some ways this album is not up to par with my favorites (MMLP and Recovery respectively) but in others it exceeds them both. I think the beats are slightly inferior overall and the subject matter isn't as good on some of the tracks (I am getting abit annoyed he but put another song about Christopher Reeves even if it's an older one. On other hand word play on it is quite good and I enjoy the beat and his flow on it.). That's the bad on this albulm and the only bad on it imo.

His wordplay, flow and cadence on "Death of Slim Shady" are second to nobody. He has become so good at wordplay it is literal art. His doubles, triple and quads are insane. This is the first time in a long time I have been looking up song lyrics because I have too to catch all the meanings. Fuel alone has one of his top ten bars ever.

Got the most content on the continent
And constant compliments give me confidence (I'm a)
A cross of common sense and incompetence (Uh)
I'm cognizant that conflicts are consequence (What?)
Of accomplishments accomplished through competition
If Kon coulda conked him into unconsciousness
Though conscious, I conjure this King Kong and just
Call me "Kamikaze," I'm concoctin' this

The speed and devilery on this blew my mind and I've not heard many better rap schemes period. I agree the album is not for everyone. But what form of music or even artist is? (Maybe this should of gone in reviews lol.)

I totally get what you’re saying. It’s frustrating when critics don’t seem to give an album a fair chance. Do you think they just don’t understand the music, or are they being dismissive on purpose?
