Default 90s Nerd Drama Shows

As I'm maybe getting back into the Highlander TV series I'm thinking about that whole sub-genre of hour-long, nerdy drama shows that were especially prevalent in the 90s and into the 00s. Shows like Buffy and Angel, all the Star Trek series starting with TNG, Babylon 5, Hercules and Xena, Stargate, Dark Angel, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, all those random shows that existed for a season or two on Saturday afternoons but never really took off like Cleopatra 2525 or Andromeda or whatever, and even the Battlestar Galactica reboot that was like the prestige TV version of those nerd shows, and I just though it would be cool to have a thread to talk about that kind of show in the context of their shared aesthetics and target audiences. Cause for a long time those shows were a significant portion of my media consumption and still to this day live rent free in my head.

Should I be a good lesbian and watch Xena or is it too dated? I watched the first episode once and it didn't really click but maybe I shouldn't have given up so soon

It doesn't have the drama of Buffy and is almost entirely episodic early on but it does raise stakes as the series progresses. I'd say you don't have to watch it from the beginning if the pilot didn't do much for you so maybe just pick a fan favorite season or episode and see how you feel. I mean Xena gets crucified by Julius Caesar and her partner gives birth to the Antichrist so you should definitely give it another shot.

Yeah but there is the immense quality drag of (shudder) Joxer to take into consideration.

All in all though, yeah, I would go for it, Marie. It's (mostly) light-hearted and fun, very feminist without being preachy, plus Raquel's a babe.

I'm ashamed to say that I've only seen Next Generation from Bat's list.

What Raquel? You mean Lucy Lawless? And Callisto was also a babe, and the funnest villain.
