Favourite Nordic Dramas?
There's something very specific about what they term today Nordic Drama or Scandi-Drama - the harsh but beautiful landscapes, the feeling of being so tiny before nature, the tough people, the different customs, the almost monochrome feel of much of it. I have been watching a lot of this and wondered if anyone else has shows they can recommend?
So far I've seen and enjoyed (unless otherwise specified, I've only seen - or there only is - one season) The Bridge (four seasons) State of Happiness Trapped (Two seasons but have only seen the second one as yet) Valhalla Murders Man in Room 301 Before We Die (Two seasons but have only seen one so far) Alex Below the Surface Darkness: Those Who Kill (Sequel coming: Blinded: Those Who Kill) DNA Occupied (Two seasons)

I've only seen Forbrydelsen or The Killing, the first season is great, the second season loses it I think. Been meaning to check out The Bridge also.

I wasn't sure about adding that, as it kind of has a more light, comic-relief feel to it, and while the landscape is there it's more a case of a fish out of water as the American gangster tries to adapt than a native protagonist. One thing these Nordic dramas share is a very dour mood, an almost total lack of any sort of comic relief. They're bleak, harrowing, tough and tense, and I just don't equate Lillyhammer with that. A great show, but I couldn't in all honesty call it a Nordic drama.

To anyone interested and on this side of the pond, BBC 4 are rescreening The Killing (the original) from the beginning starting this Saturday, beginning with 3 episodes. Looking forward to that one.

I absolutely agree that Vikings is awesome (or was - I see there's a sequel series in the works) but it's not what I mean, which I'm fairly certain you know and are just being facetious. Which is all I would expect and I guess we wouldn't want you any other way. Not that anyone actually wants you, of course...
