Retro games are awesome, it's like a completely different appeal just like how some of us listen to 80s and 90s music when we could listen to modern music with more modern equipment that's technically considered to be superior. It doesn't necessarily equate to superior results though, so you have these really awesome platformers that are completely timeless as a result. Admittedly sometimes classic games suck just like with anything else, but the same is true of modern games. There's lots of really cheaply made games that lack any amount of creativity even today with the best software and bigger budgets backing these games.

Well thanks for the thoughtful reply. I guess it's a matter of personal taste, I was just surprised at how prevalent these types of games were in the arcade subgenre. I could understand there being a few curious but there are dozens of them. Maybe it's also a matter of cost (mostly these games are from independent studios).

Anyway, I'm not attracted to them at all, regardless of the mechanics. I play games (and have specifically bought a PS4) not just for the mechanics but for the graphics also.
