I'm a big fan of some of these movies so I'll search out some of the others I haven't seen. Would be curious to know what you think of:

Tetsuo
Audition
Tokyo Gore Police

A morally abhorrent horror movie about Unit 731? Gimme gimme gimme!

it's more or less the most disgusting movie in existence. Props for such creative and graphic splattering. The chemical experiments are generally the grossest. All of them are pretty bad. I can't understand why leading cockroaches into a girl's vagina for them to burrow upward and be surgically removed from the face is gonna help build better weapons.

Men Behind the Sun is the same thing, but significantly shorter and generally better https://archive.org/details/MenBehindTheSunbqnftyYWW4E

awesome triptych you got there

Tetsuo: The Iron Man - One of the most visceral movies there is. It's almost like the powerviolence or industrial of film. The debris imagery is generally insane on its own, but the advent of jerky and paranoid seeming body language amplifies it to another level of discomfort. Really gets the heart rate going.

Audition - Amazing shift from the drama of the first half or so to the nerve wracking horror of the second. Some seriously terrifying shots that will stay with you for a bit. The whole thing is handled impressively.

Tokyo Gore Police - A blast of epic proportions, easily one of the most entertaining movies for me. CGI is meh I guess but it couldn't work better in such J-splatter films, where the splattering is centered around being as outlandish and ridiculously inhuman as possible. Infinite amount of spectacular arterial saturation and some seriously gnarly looking dudes in the form of the engineers. Never not a good time.

Did you know that treatments for frostbite that are the modern medical standard were developed by Unit 731? They'd hold a victim's arm in a barrel of freezing cold water until it got frostbite and then just experiment with ways to treat it. The reason none of those people were ever tried was because the US wanted their knowledge and gave them amnesty. Like giving Mengele a pardon cause his experiments on twins were hella helpful.

oh yeah the frostbite experiments are pretty obscene too. The one in Men Behind the Sun is comically abrupt and ridiculous when they peel the bitch's flesh to the bone. The one in Philosophy of a Knife is more drawn out and sadistic (like all the other scenes), but it's more thoroughly explained. Talking bout tying this fool to a post in the lowest possible temperature and dumping hot water on him to kill the flesh and just shred him up with no pain. There's a nice horrid post-frostbite shot of the guy walking on an immensely mangled and mutilated ankle/foot till it basically snaps off trying to support his weight.

that's just one of the experiments, some of the **** they do is excessively awful, with their concentrated plagues and face disintegrating lamps and dismembered fetus limbs and heads being pulled out of a woman.

Men Behind the Sun has a pretty bad scene with a cat though.

Yes I absolutely love Tetsuo and Audition. TGP had a lot of great ideas but it felt like a movie in need of a director to me. Certainly creative set pieces and I probably shouldn't demand more from it. For me the pinnacle of J-splatter is definitely Ichi the Killer.
