Let's Discuss "mother!" - SPOILER Alert
Anyone up for this? I'll start:
Did anyone catch the symbolism of how at the end of the celebration dinner for Abel, which had devolved into a wicked and debauched party, Mother (who'd been trying to get everyone to behave and stay in line) keeps pleading with a couple to get off of the sink, which is not yet anchored. They keep defying her until the sink rips away from the wall and water starts spraying out all over the place. All of the party-goers quickly leave and are absent for the middle portion of the movie. Obviously this is a reference to The Great Flood. Mankind had gotten wicked and were refusing to get in line so God caused the flood and wiped everyone out. Discuss.

It's about:
A. mother of vinegar. B. Jennifer Lawrence reminds him of his daughter. C. Your guess is good as mine.

The movie is a lot funnier if you just choose to take it literally. It's kinda like that scene in the first Hobbit movie where the hobbits invade Bilbo's house, only extended by two hours and with all the further escalations that would follow with the longer running time.

This was one of the best movies I've seen in a while (I only just watched it a couple weeks ago). Jennifer Lawrence kills it, and the entire thing just had me on edge from start to finish. I can't fathom how someone could find it boring, which is a criticism I see a lot, because it induced so much anxiety that I wanted it to slow down at points! I love all of the metaphorical interpretations, and the final half hour was so mesmerizing that my eyes got dried out because I don't think I blinked for that entire section. Really amazing filmmaking, Aronofsky is definitely one of the very best out there right now.
