Fallout 3 vs Fallout: New Vegas
Time to put two of my all time favorite Bethesda games head to head against each other. Now I get it, it's hard to compare the two when both games are pretty different. However, I think I want to go about this based on personal experience. Objectively, New Vegas is the better game, but I had a far more memorable experience with Fallout 3, so my vote would probably go to Fallout 3.
That's just an idea tho. You can vote however you want. |
One of the more memorable gaming experiences of my entire life was when I finally got inside New Vegas (which is pretty damn difficult!) and was able to explore around. And then all the story developments that happened shortly after....damn that game was awesome.
Fallout 3 was fun but all I remember is grey landscape and the typical Fallout gameplay. New Vegas just stands out to me so much more in so many ways. |
^I love New Vegas a lot. I think it's a truly fantastic game and way more finished than 3. Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game tho and it's hard to beat that.

The story in NV is actually quite good. I played through it. Definitely recommend.

I used to think open world games were by far the best but now I’m an adult with money and less free time I’ve grown to really appreciate a good linear experience that doesn’t throw 8,000,000 optional things to do at you |
^I kind of fall in that same spot but I still love well done open world games. A lot of them can be monotonous and boring. But I also do love a linear experience just as much.
I would say that both Fallouts came out at the best time. Decent enough graphics for the time and good stories. They've definitely stood the test of time though graphically it does show age. |
I have no issues playing on pc. I've played all of them on pc.
|
I always thought that was normal. Feels natural to me but I've never played the console versions so.
|
Fair nuf. I guess I don't really know any different since I'm strictly PC. I'm just used to it I guess.

Kill dem raiders that hang out around westside. Sell their guns and armor ****, and keep all those sweet, sweet drugs for yourself. Don't be afraid to become an addict. All the cool wasters are doing it.
Seriously, drugs are amazing. Deathclaw? Suck up some jet and inject a needle of psycho into your balls, and then cheese that ****er with a million VATS shots straight to his deathcock. Both your legs turned into stroganov by a landmine? Pop a hydra, and scuttle around on your bloody stumps like you've got shiny new cheetah feet. Burdened with too much intelligence? Get ****faced on booze and master the art of the low int response. Raul the Ghoul silently judging you as you drunkenly stumble into things? Eat a fixer and show that bitch how good you clean up. Locked out of a cool quest path or dialogue branch 'cause your intelligence and charisma are too low? Chew some mentats and make all those lady raiders sploosh. |
Aw, you missed the chance to have him crucified by Caesar's dorkos. Shoulda just ****ed him.
|
I love giving Benny over to the Legion. It's hilarious. There's also a glitch where if you decide to kill Benny while he's crucified, the game'll think he's alive and he'll be totally normal as if nothing happened. Then you can kill him.
|
iirc, on the 360, before they put out all of those patches, if you punched cruicified people, they would flip out and keep teleporting from the ground back to the cross. Or, like, hover around with their arms out, like they were still crucified.
I remember punching some guy down, and he just sort of stood there staring at me. Then, like a million hours later, I walked into some interior cell (think it was a cave), and he loaded in with me. Freaked me out. |
^that video is great

I can get behind that. I think it captures that essence very well.

Oh. Hardcore? Yeah you're right. Sorry. Forgot you're playing hardcore.
|
Hey man, I played through Super Mario 64 and only cried twice.
|
New Vegas. As much as I liked Fallout 3, New Vegas was more expansive IMO.
