You are directly putting the fault on the women as a way to take the heat off of Louis. That's victim blaming. Just embrace it, dude.

I said Louis was a scum bag for doing it all along bro. You mean there can only be one idiot per interaction? I'm saying that apparently society has failed these women if they are UNWILLING to tell someone no.

It sucks that you went through trauma. Nothing I say here will change that. I'm speaking from my own reference point. If you feel that I am "victim shaming/blaming" and you are a victim in a similar case, then I can see how you could be taking it as a direct insult, as me saying that what you experienced was your fault. I am not saying that Ki. If I hurt your feelings, I am sorry.

But I am not sorry for my opinions, of which I have given my reasonings to substantiate. I'm done with this.

It's cool. You didn't know. I dont blame you for that. I'm just throwing it out there to better understand my side. No worries man.

Pretend that you're not a karate master and that you're a skinny 20 year old woman for a minute. Is complying with someone's requests to avoid risking violence from someone who could easily overpower you grounds for being an idiot? From the woman's perspective, Louis was already willing to cross the social norm into something creepy and scummy without a second thought, it's not so unrealistic to think that he might slip into violence just as easily.

He couldn’t come up with a response to my post from last page:

I can’t think of many situations that would be more terrifying. They were probably paralyzed in fear and didn’t know what else to do besides let him do it. But nah big macho Merit thinks the women should have Rambo nut-kicked him and parachuted away while the building exploded behind them. That’s not how the world or people ****ing work

So he clearly won’t be able to come up with a response to you either

I think it may be for the best to put this to rest. I take partial responsibility for derailing the thread.

Frownland 08-17-2018 09:55 AM

It happens.

Anyways, has anyone seen the Tom Segura special they have on Netflix? He's pretty funny in interviews but I haven't seen any of his standup.

No, this is the kind of **** that needs to be called out. Toxic macho ****s like Merit are precisely the reason that nasty weirdos like Weinstein and Spacey etc etc etc have been able to get away with this **** for so long. Merit and so many others are literally incapable of thinking about things in any way outside of their safe white male bubble and its unfathomable to them that a young, defenseless woman would be too scared to defy the desires of a man in a position of power above them. It’s physically sickening to even think that people would victim shame in such a scenario, and letting it go is almost as bad as the bull**** Merit’s been spewing

I get it but I've exhausted any other points I can make to help him understand. At some point I just have to stop it for my own sanity. I didn't really want to express myself that way but it was necessary. I hate talking about it. But that's why I initially called him out. However it's dragged on too long and it's going nowhere. Itll just become a forum wide war against Merit and that wasn't my intention when I called him out. It's partially my fault.

Woah...that's slightly ironic.

You don't think it merits further discussion?

If we couldn't derail threads with spam and ****posting this forum would be dead.

Frownland 08-17-2018 10:29 AM

It's not like this discussion was a non-sequitur.

Back in MY day http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/starac.gif moderators were a bit more active and would, I don't know, take the derailed but interesting! conversation and put it into a thread of its own so that the original one can breathe...and hey, then maybe other people who don't feel like entering a Netflix comedy special thread but are super interested in talking about sexual abuse would maybe get a chance to participate and throw in their two cents...

Is what I'm sayin'....

Lilja 08-17-2018 02:05 PM

What blew my head about this thread is that I thought I had actually commented about a Netflix special I liked..oh there it is.buried under a few pages focusing on women and sexual abuse....you never know quite where threads will end up on this forum..
