I don't follow these kinds of cases because I don't care. I wasn't aware he'd apparently outright admitted it to be true.

My apologies then.

Who the hell needs their comedians to be good people? Good people aren't funny.

A little refresher course. None of the women who came out with these accusations found his behavior acceptable. All were quite upset about it. None felt comfortable speaking out about it until much later. This is wrong and sad.

It's not necessarIly about that. It's the perception you have of that person. I wouldn't be able to watch Louis CK and just forget about it. I understand that you have to separate the personal lives and the private lives but this is an exception.

You wouldn't be able to watch the Cosby show without thinking about his felony.

Frownland 08-14-2018 10:34 AM

Terrible analogy. Louis is actually funny, the Cosby show is not.

Key 08-14-2018 10:34 AM

That wasn't even my point.

The Batlord 08-14-2018 10:43 AM

Bill Cosby's whole schtick was on being the most wholesome man on the planet. Louis' persona is as a dirty schlub who's bad at life. One of these people shattered the illusion while the other actually reinforced it.

Key 08-14-2018 10:44 AM

Got it. So his personality is an excuse for his behavior toward women. Just making sure we're on the same page.

It's nice to have opinions. Also I never said support. I said excusing.

You're having one of those logic fails you consistently have where you infer everything anybody says to mean whatever the hell you want it to mean.

I'm just basing it on your guys's post. I'm just trying to understand what you're getting at.

No but youre trying to emphasize the point that his allegation isn't as bad as another. He admitted to it. Whether it was just masturbating or taking advantage of her, it falls in the same category.

I also did warn you guys that my opinion on this is stuck. I can't look at somebody as funny if they are guilty of sexual allegations. It's just not something I can do.

I'm saying that the person Louis is on stage could totally be the guy masturbating over the phone so my image of him hasn't actually changed. If Cosby were to come on the stage and start making weird noises I'd start wondering why the **** a serial rapist ever thought to do that in the first place and turn the channel to make the bad thoughts go away.

Masturbating in front of someone isn't good, but it beats drugging and raping someone any day of the week. I will gladly emphasize that point.

Same category, yes. Same level of severity, no.

That's not a bad point actually. So I'll give you that one.

Same category, yes. Same level of severity, no.

I find this reasoning to be flawed. It's still an unwanted sexual advance toward an individual.

How is it flawed? Is a slap in the face as bad as getting your throat cut with a knife. I mean, they're both forms of violence.

Key 08-14-2018 11:01 AM

That's an odd analogy to make.

Frownland 08-14-2018 11:01 AM

Intentionally so, since it is an analogy made to reflect your odd logic.

Yes but the personal barrier to masturbating in front of someone is less than drugging and raping them, which is less than putting on a fake cast, tricking them into your car, bludgeoning them, violating them with a foreign object, strangling them with pantyhose, bludgeoning them some more, and then cutting their head off to use for an ashtray.

I'd rather trust Bill with my goldfish than Ted, and I'll choose Louis over Bill. I'm not sure how happy I'd be giving my fish to any of them but Louis is by far the lesser of three evils.

I dunno. I just cant separate them when it's something as serious as a sexual allegation, especially when it's concluded to be true. I consider that to be in the lowest of low when it comes to human behavior. It's not something I can just categorize and move on. It's all the same to me. It's why I didn't bother finishing House of Cards. I can't look at Kevin Spacey and just forget about his allegations when he's on screen. Maybe that's my own fault but w/e

How weak-willed does a person have to be to just say say NO when someone asks if they can masturbate in front of them? Nobody is holding a gun to these girls' heads. Say NO, call the dude a creepy pervert, maybe even slap him in the face if you feel it necessary, and walk away.

Women [and men, for that matter]: Protect yourselves out there. Carry pepper spray, a stun gun, a REAL gun, a knife, a whistle. Whatever you need to feel safe. Get some martial arts training. If you don't watch out for yourself, no one else will.

What if you're finally in the job/industry you've worked toward your entire life and you consider the possibility of doing that to Louis C.K., one of the most powerful men in the comedy industry right now, could result in you losing your job. Pretty pathetic of you to judge so harshly without considering ANY of the context involved. Louis isn't some random creep, he's a dude with a LOT of influence.

Have you seen his posts about flipping out on cops when they get called for his little domestic disturbances, resulting in him getting suplexed and arrested? I don't think Merit much understands the idea of self-control.

Yeah. It's the victims fault. They should know better.

Gonna have to go with Kiiii's kneejerk reaction on this one.

I didn't blame the victim. I asked a question. There is a difference.

Just "asking a question" is generally the tactic of someone blaming someone.

[MERIT] 08-16-2018 10:05 PM

I feel that what he did was an abuse of power, but I am just astonished at why these girls, if they didn't want him to masturbate in front of him, just didn't tell him to go fuck himself and leave. Where has the backbone of today's American gone? Why do so many of them refuse to stand up for what is right and slap down what is wrong? Isn't that idea of freedom part of what America was founded upon?

Yes, let us go back to the glorious 50s when secretaries stood up for themselves when they were groped in the workplace.

I was getting ready to respond to the first part of your post but then the 2nd part went into crazy town and now I don't even know where to start. Ooh I know. How bout, just don't sexually harass people whether they can defend themselves or not. I don't think it's fair to judge what the victim did or didn't do in any situation. It's not always that easy.
