Hasan Minhaj - Homecoming king (good jokes, worst delivery ever)
What? That’s your takeaway from this special? It made me laugh several times, but even when it didn’t I thought his stories and points about growing up as an immigrant from India were incredibly insightful and fascinating to hear. My only complaint is that the show was probably 20 minutes too long. I watch a lot of standup to the point where so much of it blends together and I can’t remember details, but this is one of the most memorable I’ve seen in the past couple years. “I’m going to prom with Bethany ****ing Reed” and then the ending to that story...I’ll never forget this special

You know it's bad when even the Chapelle specials are pretty unfunny.

Stanhope the GOAT.

I mean I'd listen to a podcast with these stories probably but not a standup, comedians have to have good delivery, his pacing and delivery are just not good. But hey, you and a bunch of other people got a kick out of it so what do I know...;)

I mean really what’s the difference between a podcast and standup? Both are just a person or persons talking. As standup comedy I guess Homecoming King isn’t the best but as an entertainment show I thought it was excellent. So whatever semantics you wanna use I guess

Well the difference I guess would be that a standup show is filled with jokes, that have a set up and a punchline, a podcast can just be banter which doesn't have to get a laugh every 30 seconds. I guess some comedians are now blurring the lines a little bit, like Hannah Gadsby's Nanette (which got a LOT of buzz over the past month or so and I have to say, it was quite an experience but not necessarily something I'd recommend to everyone). But the problem for me with Minhaj was that his whole setup was as a classic one, not someone trying to upend the idea of standup like Gadsby, and yet his punch lines just didn't really hit hard and a lot of the times fell flat, because he told them wrong. A better skilled comedian probably would have done a lot better with the material.

But anyway, to each their own...;)

Forgot to mention that I love pretty much everything Marc Maron has done. Including his podcast / show. His standup is on another level tho. And yeah, I do agree that those can be seen as the same thing.

OMG, I just saw an AMAZING standup, Mike Birbiglia - My girlfriend's boyfriend. Has it all, great storytelling, great jokes! If you google best netflix standup he shows up on a few lists and definitely deserved!

Too bad that the only Stanhope that Netflix has is one of his weakest specials. Still good but he's done so much better.

Doug Stanhope is like the walking archetype of a washed up alcoholic comedian who isn't that funny anymore, just sad.

Iliza Shlesinger's stuff is funny and relatable, at least for myself. After Elder Millennial I went back and watched the rest of her bits.

Whoa there, he hasn't stopped being funny yet.
