Default MB's Video Game Classics: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Because we've talked in depth about Super Mario World, I figured we may as well discuss Super Mario World 2.

I don't think I ever finished the game cause it's actually kinda hard later in the game but god damn do I remember everything I did do. The artwork was breathtaking and amazingly immersive, that ****ing **** Baby Mario with that hideous cry that sent you into hysterics when you were down to 10 stars, the amazing vehicle transformations, the mini-games you got to play when you put a key into those huts, the sprawling levels that you simply had to explore every inch of, the castles that made SMW1's castles seem lame by comparison. God damn was that game on a whole 'nother level from any Mario game that came before. How the **** can anyone rep Super Mario Bros. 1 without then going on to say how Yoshi's Island was the best though. I'm assuming it's simply because it came at the end of the SNES's life cycle and got overshadowed by the N64 and Playstation. ****ing 6/5.

I love it, still play it regularly. I like the twist of relying on eggs to solve puzzles and battle the bosses rather than power ups. Visually it's crisp and clean, albeit childlike. The levels like Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy are so wild, lots and lots of fun. 5/5

I'd give it a 5/5 but I just remember certain parts being frustrating. I'd say I'm more in the 4.5 range. Very close to a perfect score.

I loved how the cave levels were so vertical as well as horizontal. All the levels of the game could be like that but the cave levels felt so open while also feeling claustrophobic cause obviously they should. I just never knew where the top and bottom of the levels would be or where the end would be.

The cave levels were pretty extraordinary especially considering graphics limitations back then. Hell the whole game looks and feels amazing while also managing to be somewhat difficult and fun.

Even better than Super Mario World. 2nd greatest 2D platformer of all-time after DKC2. Easy 5/5.

Alright, alright, it's good, but better than Super Mario World? That's just craziness.
