MB's Video Game Classics

Important note as of 10/10/2018: Threads will no longer be made for the remainder of the games. If I do this again, we'll vote on which games to keep in the current list and then add more as we see fit.

Why not? We have them for music so why not have them for video games. Rules are simple. Post video games that you'd like to see be polled in another thread. At that point, we'll discuss each game that we all agree that should be polled. We'll use a simple rating system. The individual threads should allow for enough discussion.

Think you're up for it?

I'll also add that once we get a compiled list, we can decide which games move forward to their own threads.

Rating system will be as follows:

1/5:Not Worth Playing
2/5: Not Very Very Good
3/5 Decent
4/5: Very Very Good
5/5: A True Classic

Obviously the rating system isn't perfect but I'm sure you can figure it out. And also it should be obvious that voting on a game means you've probably at least played the game to decided the rating.

Here's the current list (with links to existing polls):

Oh man yes. Fire Red / Leaf Green are both my favorites of the original series. They improved on everything wthout taking too much away from what made them great.

Lucky PAL bastard. We never got to experience the glory of Demolition Girl over here in the states. Some games are just too good for NTSC.

the perk system is really fun too

yet on mechanics alone these 3D open world games have such a long way to go, they come out half busted riddled with bugs, the writing is not engaging, the main story is pointless, and no progress seems to be being made on this

I have a hard time recommending any of them for classic status when games almost 10 years older already had more engaging worlds

The only big, open world like game I consider a classic is Dragon's Dogma. It's hard to explain in short, but it's a whole other experience than what you'd expect, when once you learn how to play it. It's a way smarter designed game than it ever got credit for.

****ing Halo 3 ****ing multiplayer ***s. I'd rather split-screen on a couch playing the bigger and better maps from Halo 1 than put up with boring Halo 3 maps and the ****s you play online. And the campaign is the Black Album of Halo or something.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-05-2018 01:15 PM

i could not possibly care less about campaign but the multiplayer is objectively better if you put your nostalgia for the original aside.

The classic thread is my baby and I'm calling copyright on the grounds that you have watered down my idea.

You know it somehow just occurred to me that you were like ten when 3 came out, and still ****ting in your nappies when 1 did, so 3 was probably just the first Halo you played, or at least the first one you played when it was current which seems to be important to you. Now it makes sense.

It's all good. Once I've compiled a list of good potential classics, that's when we'll decide what goes through. It's just easier to do it this way since there's not really a structure when choosing specific video games as classics. It's easier with music obv.

DwnWthVwls 06-05-2018 04:54 PM

Ultima Online is obviously the best game ever made, but here's some honorable mentions:

Final Fantasy Tactics
Minecraft
Secret of Mana
Punchout
Tekken (the series)
Wolf Team.. seriously look it up, so much fun pre-P2W model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Weg0szcXsis

im starting to think that maybe you didnt have any friends to play multiplayer with so your opinion is based entirely off of campaigns in which case ill agree the first is better but like, who cares about campaign?

I haven't had friends to multiplayer with for... a while, but back in my Halo days I did. Perhaps why I'd rather do split-screen multiplayer than online multiplayer. But co-op Halo is the real magic.

And campaigns are better because it's an actual experience to immerse yourself in, but of course you're a recently reformed libertarian so you're all about smacking down cucks. Just like elph, who's a libertarian in denial.

Man, when the first and second Halo were released, that was some of the most fun I've had on the original Xbox. Then after Halo: Reach the series sort of lost steam.

Church. It's been so long since I played 2 and I never played quite enough of it to leave a lasting impression to this day so I can't really comment on it besides remembering that I thought it was awesome and the dual sub-machine guns were OP awesome.
