Hell yeah. The addition of duel weapons in general was such a cool move. And the fact that you could literally play as the arbiter and wield laser swords.

The Batlord 06-05-2018 05:57 PM

Getting rid of the sub-machine guns is yet another knock against 3.

None of you will have played this but goddamn Starflight II was an addictive game! **** graphics (think it was CGA - remember that?) on the DOS platform, but incredible gameplay. You roamed the galaxy colonising and often strip-mining planets, then sold your stuff on other planets. You could even hunt alien creatures and take them off to other worlds to sell. Ambiguous morals, great game.

I'm stoked with the outcome of this thread. I'll let this go for a couple days and probably compile a list this weekend or Monday then we should be ready to vote and poll. This is gonna be fun.

I suck at that game, but it's cool.

I did play the third game in the series, First Encounters, a heck of a lot in the 90's.

The Batlord 06-06-2018 07:29 AM

Knights of the Old Republic
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Tetris
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 12 (totally underrated game)
Civilization 4
Rome: Total War
StarCraft
Red Alert 2
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Suikoden 5
Goldeneye
Call of Duty 2 (**** you, shooting Nazis is great and the series hadn't yet become lame)
Blitzkrieg
Company of Heroes
Alien: Isolation
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Saints Row 2, 3, and 4
Super Mario World

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-06-2018 07:35 AM

CoD sucked until 3 and then got moderately better until Black Ops before totally rock bottoming

Alien Isolation and GTA Vice City are musts though

oh and FF 6 too

Never played Black Ops but I'm willing to give it a shot after seeing enough good press about it, and I have good memories of 3 but I was young enough to not notice the reportedly terrible AI so I'll hold back on a rec since I haven't played it in about a decade. 2 is pretty great though and along with Halo 1 just about the only modern FPS I need in my life.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-06-2018 08:24 AM

i see multiplayer (and zombies w/ black ops) as being the selling point of any cod game. but if you’re looking for campaign i can’t recommend CoD 4, MW2, or Black Ops enough. i mean, they’re CoD campaigns so obviously it’s totally run and gun. but the storylines are actually pretty entertaining and there are some bonkers missions. the most distinctively memorable one includes being a russian gunman shooting up hostages in an airport on MW2

I have nostalgia for Modern Warfare 1 but tried playing it again a little while back and got bored fairly quickly. I'm not sure why when the mechanics are the same damn thing as 2, and even the presence of Nazis shouldn't make that big a difference. Same thing with Halo 3 tbh. I could play Halo 1 all day long but after about 20 minutes of 3 and maybe an hour of CoD 4 the twin options of "shoot" and "throw a grenade" start making me go to sleep.

Key 06-06-2018 08:28 AM

Call of Duty Black Ops simply for the campaign. One of the best in the series by far.

It's really good. Campaign wise definitely one of the best I've played in an FPS shooter.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-06-2018 09:17 AM

i don’t remember the last FPS campaign i played. it actually might be Black Ops 2. i play fps’ to **** up some noobs, if im going into a campaign i want an RPG typically.

But either you voice chat and that's no good or you don't voice chat and you might as well be fighting a computer that runs sideways and backwards.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-06-2018 09:47 AM

i always partied up with friends

i still do that in pretty much every game, outside of league which i’ll o play by myself semi-regularly.
