The Official Netflix Originals Thread

Netflix has been expanding its efforts as a production company for a while now, so I figured that they should get their own thread. Feel free to discuss Netflix's films, television, and documentaries as well as its impact on the industry and any other interesting related discussion topics that you can think of.

A few of my favourites are Beasts of No Nation (thriller about child soldiers), Black Mirror (tech-based sci-fi anthology), Gerald's Game (horror, psychological horror, thriller), and American Vandal (satire on over the top crime documentaries).

Ain't nobody got time to sift through all of the stuff that Netflix throws at us, so what are your favourites?

The obvious one is House of Cards, though is that an original, given that it's a remake of a BBC show? And then I'd have issues with Black Mirror being touted as a Netflix Original, since that began life on Channel 4 and they really just seem to have taken it over.

There's one about black slaves making a run for it - is it Underground or something maybe? Looks interesting, but I have so much stuff still to watch on my Sky box I don't have time for Netflix. One of these days I'm going to look through what they have though: seem to have some interesting shows.

Pretty cool documentary on Obesity

They show an autopsy of a blubbery corpse.

Obesity is in the title

Didn't know Sky was even used in the states, thought it was TiVo or something.

The more you know.

It probably isn't. I wouldn't know. I live in Ireland.

Why did you think I was American? I'm always slagging off Americans, know little about American politics, and am totally street-unsmart. Plus I use Irish idioms and if that wasn't enough, what about my avatar just before I was going to leave, on Paddy's Day? Are these not clues? :yikes:

If this were any other link I'd kinda mock you for whatever and not staying on topic but I'm literally wearing a Day9 shirt and any excuse to rep him is my absolute ****. His Mostly Walking series is one of the absolute best ways ever to just kill time, and he is 100% to blame for getting me obsessed with StarCraft.

And Youtubers/Twitch streamers will be the next reality tv whenever the public catches up.

DwnWthVwls 03-23-2018 05:29 PM

Posted it just for you..

In the words of Qwerty, S/O to DAY9!

I almost made it through the first season of Peaky Blinders before I realized I don't care what happens next.

Stranger Things was really good up until the last couple episodes of season 1, when it just turned into monsters chasing people in the scary woods. I didn't bother with season 2.

I don't think they're Netflix originals, but Sherlock & Ripper Street were really good.

Your loss.

OccultHawk 04-29-2018 05:25 PM

Not totally sure if it’s a Netflix original but Pervert Park is pretty interesting.

Frownland 12-29-2018 05:29 PM

Bandersnatch!

Did know what Bird Box was nor had I heard anything about it so I didn't bother.

^ This movie apparently has an interactive, make-your-own-decision feature that allows you to choose what happens next. Did you do that? It sounds like a fun new dimension to watching a movie.

^ I thought this was a better-than-average post-apocalypse movie, but I haven't tried The Bird Box Challenge yet - perhaps I'll try it later when I'm driving to the supermarket....

So I finally watched this. I'm kind of in between on it. As a Black Mirror episode, I think it lacks significantly though in regards to what Netflix accomplished with this episode is pretty impressive. I just felt it was not a story fit for Black Mirror. Definitely not one of my favorites. But an interesting experience nonetheless.

I thought that it was interesting and kind of frustrating, but the way that they broke down the fourth wall was well done.

I didn't have any other Black Mirror episodes in mind because I knew that something like this would be pretty different. The message is in line with what the show usually puts out though.

Key 01-07-2019 12:21 AM

I still enjoyed my time with it quite a bit. I thought it was an interesting way to go about it and I enjoyed the story. I just didn't feel as connected as I have with other great episodes. I'm sure if I watch it again tho I'd really enjoy it. I did go through several of the endings / outcome. No complaints there honestly.
