It's just not even remotely the most interesting WW2 movie I've seen. Not much of a fan of Spielberg's cheap & schmaltzy way of tugging at heartstrings.

Superior in my opinion: The Pianist, Der Untergang, A Woman in Berlin, The Counterfeiters. There's more, of course.

To me, Spielberg lost his ability to make worthwhile movies very early in his career.

Another incredibly wrong hot take from Shazam. Contrarian just to be contrarian. Schindler's List is definitely among the finest holocaust and Spielberg films.

I think Polanski's movies are generally vastly more interesting than Spielberg's. Both are very accessible film makers, but Spielberg was best when he was making movies like Jaws and E.T.
I don't like a single one of Spielberg's serious dramatic movies.

But yeah, the Pianist is also somewhat melodramatic at times, but I think it's far more involving and feels more grounded in reality in terms of the behavior of the characters.
