Agnes of God (1985, Norman Jewison)
Been on a Jane Fonda roll since the Criterion Channel started their January salute to her. One of the films not in their retrospective is this one (based on a play by John Pielmeier) about a nun who believes her stillborn child was the result of an immaculate conception. Fonda plays a shrink brought into the convent to handle the situation. Haven’t seen it in years. A few Oscar nods went to the three leads (Fonda, Anne Bancroft, Meg Tilly). |

more Jane
Watched this on the Criterion Channel and went looking for a trailer. Whole thing's up on the Tube. Ok copy. Interesting flick, mostly for the Fonda and Jeff Bridges performances. Plot is fairly negligible.

Chambers Brothers - Wade in the Water/People Get Ready/Time Has Come Today I stumbled across "Time Has Come Today" from this performance the other day and I just found some more footage from that show. Would've been a bit "groovier" to see in color instead of B&W but I'll take what I can get when it comes to old footage like this. |

and more Jane
China Syndrome (1979, James Bridges) A near nuclear plant meltdown is covered up. The movie was released two weeks before the real 3-Mile Island plant came close to a meltdown. Jane Fonda's in it and Michael Douglas is good as a hothead photo-journalist but it features Jack Lemmon's best performance (imo). The leads talking about the project |
