Downhill Racer (1969, Michael Ritchie) Robert Redford's beautiful icy American egomaniac of a ski pro, Gene Hackman's usual Machiavellian positioning and Ritchie's direction are all in the service of Brian Probyn's fantastic cinematography. He captures the absolute emptiness of these people and their "culture". Criminally underrated 60s classic. |

Penguins rule.
My daughter is hanging out in the livingroom again and I'm being subjected to endless episodes of Iyanla: Fix My Life on OWN tv and videos of Iyanla's public appearances on YouTube tv. It's OK - I like Iyanla well enough (she's often insightful as well as very funny) but it's been an all-day/all-evening marathon (so far). |
