Lynch will be the first one to tell you that this is often his approach. Iirc from interviews, it was a prominent element in the creation of this season, but I'm 100% certain that I heard him saying Inland Empire was largely driven by what was more or less real-time storytelling.

^Possibly...
So, does anyone here subscribe to the theory that Audrey is still in a coma from the bank explosion, and all of her scenes are just happening in her head? It would make a decent amount of sense, I think. |

It's intriguing, her scenes have been a joy to watch but probably the more abstract in how they relate to the overall story. It is a little weird how Ben Horne didn't mention her when he found out that Richard had just robbed Sylvia. If she's in a coma, that would make sense, she has had no chance to raise him and cannot be held accountable for his horrific actions thus far.
I do believe the theory that Richard Horne is the son of Audrey and Evil Coop, who raped her while she was in her coma. My theory is that Evil Coop did something to prolong Audrey's coma because she is going to be what snaps Dougie out of his reverie, and she cannot do that if she's not conscious. This is really the only Twin Peaks theory I have. I've long given up trying to predict where the show will go in favor of just reveling in how much fun it has been. |

I also believe that seeing Audrey will snap Cooper out of his current state. It would be a glorious moment I am sure.
And yeah I seem to have completely missed that Audrey was in an explosion, which would explain a few of the theories mentioned above. Gonna have to re-watch some episodes. I have what happened on my end. Edit: So I have seen the scene, but damn I just totally forgot it. So yeah, I'd say she is absolutely still in the coma. The dialogue makes a bit more sense now.
