Yeah he's a linguist/historian before a writer, which shows in the pacing of the second two books, but his mythos and its presentation is one of the most important artistic achievements of this century. He's like if Ayn Rand had written Atlas Shrugged but didn't forget to make her story entertaining.

Please do not remind me of characters from Atlas Shrugged thx. I spent probably two weeks reading that boring garbage and I'd like to forget it for the rest of my life.

Oh don't get me wrong - the book is utter ****e. I was just imagining the notorious speech in Doriathrin or whatever Tolkeinian language you may fancy.

But f*ck Ayn Rand.

I was even down with her philosophy at the time (AT THE TIME) and I still couldn't make it through the whole book.
