The Force Awakens...opinion
So I got invited to a prescreening last night.
I'ma fan, I know the diehards out there all uniformly hate the same things but I don't fall victim to the sway of mass opinion...I like to think for myself. Anyway, I digress. The point I wanna make is that while most fans of the series hate Episode I off the strength of an annoying character who acts like a social reject from New Orleans' French Quarter...as though people don't have the mental faculties to tune annoyances out and enjoy the rest of the ride--I'ma fan and appreciate all the movies in the series. And with that said--BRACE YOURSELF!! I found this Disney rendition to be kinda disappointing and at times boring for an array of personal reasons, of which I will not elaborate until a later time. I don't wanna influence opinions but please be warned. Manage your expectations because if you go in there with a more-or-less neutral set of expectations, there's a chance you might be able to enjoy it having emotionally prepared adequately. I don't even know how I feel about this film tho. It's different in many ways...and you'll see. I don't wanna criticize what I believe are flaws in the story/screenwriting and directorial mistakes for the sake of avoiding spoilers. If anybody else has seen it, after the 18th maybe come back and we can discuss? |

Hip Hop you made me so glad not hating the george lucas films. IT'S HIS CREATION FFS.
Seeing episode 1 as a kid was so awesome to me--liam neeson as obi wons trainer, darth maul, the pod racing. Thats a great star wars film i dont care what any of these hive mind dorks think. The other films were great as well, seeing yoda fight was awesome, the clone army. I really don't know why people hate them so much. I could care less about the indiana jone-ish film movie magic bullcrap. Who cares. The set pieces were awesome and it encompassed the universe just fine. I haven't seen this one yet, but I really don't care much for J.J. Abrams and don't understand the appeal. Most of his stuff honestly isn't that good, even if you look at aggregate ratings. I'm curious to see what he does with a sequel. |

UNITY!!! Yeah, but by far and large...the body of his work isn't that impressive. I enjoyed MI:III, Super 8, and then the Lost Series (which was really uniquely done at the time...barring the conclusion of the series, it's still a good watch). I don't wanna speak too much onnit right now but gaaaaah. So much to say after watching that. I just don't wanna be responsible for swaying people's opinions before they even get to the show yet. After this weekend tho...I'ma open up about how I really feel. People get 72 hours of my silence but after that--open season! |

I am going with a few of my friends to see it tomorrow. My one friend looked up every spoiler he could find online, he treated the whole thing like it was a research project. I saw every episode from I to VI - so there is already a familiarity with Star Wars universe, so that is enough for me. I only watch one review that promised no spoilers. It was by Chris Struckmann, and he rates it with IV, & V. I really don't want to know too much about the movie before I see it. I like to experience the suspense which only comes from not know what is going to happen next. It will be interesting to me how the movie unfolds and whether it holds up with the rest.
Spoiler for Stuckmann's review:

I heard that both Boba Fett and Darth Vadar are dead in this one. Is that true?

No. They left a giant plot hole open and both have major roles.
