How many of you bastards went to the Fallout 4 release party? I did, it was awesome and I got my nuke pack before all of ya'll. I'm currently updating a driver so I can play, it keeps crashing on start up.

I just realized, after sitting around for the previous year and wondering what to do with my life, that I wanted to be a writer. Seems like a no-brainer, since it's the only thing I'm even half good at, but it didn't really hit me until that moment that I should even try. So I spent the last few days digging up all of my old random stories that I've half-written over the years, seeing if I should finish any of them before starting anything new. |

I constantly have to uninstall and reinstall games on a monthly basis because of this, especially with all of these games coming out. With a physical disc, this is much easier, because the base install only takes a few minutes before I'm able to launch the game, and I only have to deal with the updates, then. I have good internet, but I can't imagine the frustration of downloading a 50GB game plus updates because I had to uninstall it before for another game and now want to play it again. Good internet or not, that takes a long time. Not to mention that some people live in areas with heavily capped data plans or just slow internet in general. Not everyone can just conveniently download huge ass games. Games are getting bigger at a faster rate than hard drives can keep up with, at least on the consoles. It's not really a case of people not wanting to adapt to digital media, but more of a case of technological factors that still make physical media more attractive and convenient for consumers. |
Longest installation. Ever. (5 hours total... )
But it was worth every second! Since I'm a fan of both fps games and rpg games, the new Fallout is really a blast for me to play. Gunplay mechanics are tight, finally. Character creation is simplified, but I don't really mind. So far I'm lvl 19, running around in all legendary gear, with a backpack of highly customized weapons.. and I love it. I'm also very pleasantly surprised by the technical aspect of the game - not only does it run very well on my rig that was only making the cut for minimal requirements - I play on med details in full hd, it's also very stable (1 crash in 15 hours of gameplay) and very few bugs so far. Also, I think it's the first time since Fallout 2 I have a hard choice choosing companions - so many great ones. |
So is Fallout 4 as good as 3 and New Vegas?
|
Or as bad, depending on who you ask ;)
I can't say just yet, but so far it seems great. The world is big and rich (though I am unable to compare the sizes until I do more exploring). Dialogs vary from ok to great, they are very mass effect style - which doesn't bother me that much, but I'm sure there are folks out there that will cry about it. So far I like the voice acting very much, though I have began wondering how it's possible that 200 years after the war, there are people with a "fresh out of the boat eastern european niko belic style" or "cliche irish gal" accents... but it's nitpicking. is it ? I have yet to fully explore the building/crafting system, though after tinkering with my guns, my armors and the power armor (that has a completely separate crafting table) I have to say i really love it and now finally, collecting junk like aluminium cans, duct tape etc makes a lot of sense. Companions so far are great, for once they are really cool and I have a hard time choosing which one to travel with. They are dumb, but they are immortal so you know, fun. Generally the game is ...well, the only real problem I have with it is that it seems like it was somehow toned down. Like it's not a game for adults, but for adolescents, and by the American standard - showing guns, violence, bodies, carnage etc is ok. But at one point, one of my followers started talking about her past, about the abuse, how she was a slave and had to do "horrible things" and.. well, the game wasn't exactly as mature about this as I would have hoped. The world somehow seems devoid of sex, addiction is treated lightly.... It's very fun, but at the same time I was hoping it would get more serious at times. So far it hasn't. so far a strong 8+/10. |
Dog/dogmeat for best Fallout companion of 2015. His AI is amazing.

For PC users: Is anyone else getting really bad frame drops when you're in combat or inside a building? I have a GTX 960 and i'm usually able to run everything on Ultra settings, but for whatever reason, I get really bad frame drops in certain areas. When i'm outside though, my frames are fine. Just curious if anyone else is having this problem and it's not just me.
|
I know everybody is crazy over playing Fallout 4 at the moment, but any of you considering Wasteland 2?
|
I gave it a shot when it came out and it was simply awful. Ugly, worked like crap, there was little balance and the gameplay was really "meh". I forced myself to go through 2 or 3 missions and couldn't do any more.
Supposedly the enhanced edition or whats it called that came out recently fixes most of the problems, but I've yet to play it |

The game works really great here. I was supposed to meet the minimal requirements but when the game started, it told me I can run it in full hd and med details.. and I have! Since then I took down the resolution a notch because this way I really can't hear my gtx 660 working and it works and looks great with very few frame drops and up till now, olny 3 crashes in the 49 or so hours I've played it. It's more stable, looks and runs better than Skyrim ;)

Has anyone encountered the crash landed UFO? It isn't on the map, and supposedly there's a trail of green goo that leads to a cave which leads to "something special". I'm pissed now, I have no idea where it's at, and when I did see it I didn't follow the green blood FUCK |

I heard the crashsite is randomized, so any spoilers you might read won't help you much :(
I'm lvl 46, getting ready to finish the main story quest.. and as it turns out, it's bugged. A script that's supposed to work didn't and now I'm no longer a spy for one of the factions, I'm actually allied with the faction I spied on..... I only read about it yesterday once I turned off my pc already, will try today - supposedly for some restarting the game fixed the problem. If it doesn't... well... I'm starting from scratch. On Hard this time - playing on normal, even without the power armor, I only die in 2 cases: when I fell into a pit, because I'm blind and can't spot a hole, or when one of the bandits/gunners/supermutants is armed with a fat man launcher - a nuke in the face so far has killed me 100% of times :D That and there's not much survival involved anymore when I carry around 8k or so bullets (and use them as additional currency), 150+ stimpacks (only because I sold 300 or so up till now). Having said all that, did you manage to get your hands on gauss weapons ? I only really found two, they weren't random loot (i can tell you where, but don't want to spoil it) and they are .. simply awesome. Take a look at this baby: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J...reenShot10.png |

Problem is that the game has got so overshadowed with all the hype surrounding Fallout 4. |
I killed my first Deathclaw yesterday....after dying 3-4 times fighting it.

So my initial game .. broke. Turned out a script didn't engage and I ended up working for the wrong faction.. long story short, I started from scratch. This time I've decided to join the Minutemen and focus on re building the world.
So far I have 19 settlements under my command :) all fortified to at least 80+ defense (with sanctuary having over 150), artillery, shops and enough beds/water/food for everyone. All connected via trade routes. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...reenShot19.png Here's the biggest structure I put up so far, there are shops on the ground floor, a chill out area on the 1st floor and the 2nd floor is my personal penthouse. Honestly I thought all this sim postapo would be something I wouldn't get into.. and look at me now, a minutemen General with 19 settlements under my care and the 20th soon to be added - Spectacle Island. Also, look who I met: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s...reenShot33.png :D Yac. |
^I joined the minutemen as soon as I could and it definitely has it's rewards the further you go. I found the vault tec guy as well and he's awesome to have around. I honestly found him completely by accident. I got the artillery yesterday and I love it, it's so badass.

Yesterday I finished the game. Yay ? Not really. The Brotherhood of Steel quest line was ... it reminded me of fallout 3 - it was almost good, but not good enough. I won't spoil anything but I have to say the BoS way must be the least interesting way of finishing the game. I mean I hope it is, if it's not.. it will make me sad.
I also have to agree with what PCGamer Uk wrote in an article - Fallout 4 is a very good shooter, but it's not that good an RPG. I enjoyed id immensely but I like both shooters and RPG games. For someone who wants to minimize the shooting aspect, it will be boring. Anyway, here's some screenshots to wrap up my Boston adventure, for now at least. The 1st one is a fully upgraded x-01 torso and helmet and t-60 arms and legs power armor with a very nice paint job and.. a jetpack :D https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...reenShot45.png The other 3 are my final base - Kingsport Lighthouse. It is imo the prettiest settlement out there, initially it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/V66I4Rl.jpg And after I'm done with it: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H...reenShot63.png https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G...reenShot62.png https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d...reenShot64.png |
The graphics in that lighthouse pic looks like late PS2/early PS3 graphics. So dated.
|
It should have reminded you of 3, it's the same damn quest lol

That's some random screenshot of the place I took from the internet, it does look bad but the game does not.
I play it on med and in 1600x900 and it looks .. well, it doesn't look next gen. But it looks good and amazing at times - especially when the radiation storm is rolling in or when the sun blinds you. And yes, the BoS quest line.. is very similar to what was going on in F3. That's why I'm currently on a quest to blow them up. I also have a new huge construction project in mind, but I'll post the details if and when it materializes :D |
really struggling to figure out which faction to join
The railroad: -need to bang currie -only group with chill people -presumable have synth experts that would benfit mankind BUT -limited medical expertise -no defense -limited staff -only focus seems to be on synth preservation, less concern for wasteland population large scale Brotherhood of steel a. military presence best possibility of removing mutation, toxic waste and other wasteland threats b. National presence, closest to establishing national communication networks and government architecture c. library but -would they kill currie? -eliminate wastelander freedoms, ruled by authoritarian power which is anti-progressive which doesn't seem good The Institue a. bang currie b. best group of experts in various fields c. most likely to develop new treatment options d. probably most vital for realistically reobtaining something resembling previous status of life but a. like everyone else, no care for common people b. blatant disregard for any semblance of moral foundation which seems questionable in a ruling party I'm still leaning towards brotherhood of steel just because you need that manpower, I just don't see the wasteland being fixed by a small group of synth humpers, but the institute would likely be second option. I think I may have to go with the railroad inadvertantly based on gameplay decisions. The game has waaay too much killing though. This has probably been mentioned. Sometimes I'm surrounded by different militias in every direction its ridicoulous for a barren wasteland to be this populated by foes can't take a step anywhere. I miss the politics of new vegas |
You can actually finish the game with the Minutemen, using the Railroad only to decode the courser chip. And just how formidable the Minutemen are depends on you - most of their quests are settlement related, I got 28 settlements up and running with one of my characters. Now that should be enough people and a big enough presence to start rebuilding, right ? And they have the best imo hq of all the factions.
Here it is, my Castle, built entirely without mods, somehow I can't get them to work.. (all mods except for those that add new building options work fine). I only used one trick - settlements can't be too big, their size meter fills up very quickly and usually before you can build half of what you want, you can't build anymore. The trick is to scrap weapons :D Sounds silly and it is- it's a bug. Simply enter the settlement construction area, throw away some weapons to the ground, enter construction mode and scrap them from there - each one will count as a scrapped building and will decrease this size meter slightly. And the scrap you get from them gets transferred to the workbench. Anyway, here are some final shots of my castle, it might not be the most complex of the castles out there, but it is functional. I can't really show you the inside of "my house" as I've installed a mod that replaces all those dull original paintings with either classic masterpieces or.. pinup girls ;) So even though they are very stylish, google might go bat**** crazy over cartoon nipples on a game screenshot .. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2...eenShot105.png The main (and only) gate, yet to be seriously threatened by any attack ;) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L...reenShot90.png Here's the courtyard, with all the shops, a crafting area and my house in the background. I fixed all the walls too. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-F...eenShot107.png A different angle shot that shows more details and a lovely garden/gazebo area in the back ;) |
