Default Bloom County

With the reboot of Bloom County recently, I decided to check out some of the older strips and found that they are all (mostly, aside form the Sunday strips) available here, starting with the very first one on Dec 8th 1980:

I'm starting from #1 and will be working my way through all of it, while commenting on and posting some of the more interesting ones. It's gonna be a long journey, but I'm looking forward to seeing the parallels of where I was in life, and Breathed's take on things at the time. Heck, on Dec 8th 1980, I was a freshman in H.S.. The time between that and now is almost staggering... kind of... if you're me it is anyway.

I was thinking of putting this in a journal format, but I wanted to make it more accessible, hence being in the Media section. So, this will be a place for all things Bloom County. Long time fans, new fans, hate it, don't care about it, shut the hell up, or what have you, it's time for some Bloom.

June 27th 1981: A form of Opus was introduced into the strip:

I partially remember this one, but I'm not sure if this was the beginning of Opus, or just something random that wedged it's way into the character. Reading on, we'll see...

I actually remember reading this one. It may have been in a compilation book (I had one at one time), or possibly the original when it came out, since I used to read the paper quite a bit as a kid (no, not just the comics). I'm not sure how or why, but this strip has been branded into my brain. I remember thinking it was one of the funniest things I'd ever set eyes on and have used variations of it through my lifetime.

I may have even done something similar here at one point. I'm not going back to look though. Moving forward, I'm on 07-06-1981 at the moment...

Back at it a bit today:

This one from just a few days over 34 years ago is interesting. I'm finding that the content Breathed created that long ago is fairly parallel to what I'd consider to be relevant in the present day. It's fascinating to see his take on the Prince Charles and Lady Diana's wedding from around this time-frame as well.
