The law was changed here last October to permit copying of CDs, DVDs, and other media, so long as the backup was for your own use only.
Now it's been reversed. Appears that a number of media groups lobbied to oppose it. In addition, the maximum internet piracy sentence has been increased from 2-10 years - that's more than in the US. I only read a short BBC article, but does someone else on here have any more information over why they have made it illegal again? I wonder over this because: *The previous ruling had allowed only personal backups, not even sharing with family, so no profit loss *It has been legal to copy media for personal use in many countries for years *People ripped CDs long before the law change for their MP3 player, and never got in trouble How do you think the new ruling is likely to impact people in reality? And do you agree with it? |
