The general consensus is that this is one of the best E3s in years. A part of me wonders if a part of that was just due to console fatigue by 2011-2012 and downright apathy by 2013, not helped at all by Microsoft's woeful Xbox One reveal a few weeks prior. Then last year was pretty much "here's all the cool stuff that you can play in 2015 or later" which I think left a lot of people who bought a PS4 or Xbone feeling a little down on their new $400-$500 black rectangles. Now that we're a little further into this new generation it seems like some of the giddiness and anticipation is back, which is nice for a change, I'm getting a little tired of gamers hating on gaming all the damn time. The announcement of long anticipated games like Fallout 4, The Last Guardian, and Shenmue 3 probably helped quite a bit, although I'm not sure what I think yet about using Kickstarter for the latter.

When I first read about Fallout 4 they said the game was taking place in the Capital Wasteland again, then they said in the Mojave again and now it's East Coast and Boston. I would've preferred it had it been in California again like in Fallout 1 and 2. Quote:

As far as Shenmue 3 is concerned, nobody knew there was going to be one. Sony just announced it along with a Kickstarter at their press conference, and the announcement actually crashed Kickstarter. I never played the originals because I never owned a Dreamcast but I have heard that people have a great fondness for them for being ahead of their time. Apparently that's the game where quick-time events happened. I'm still gathering my thoughts on companies using Kickstarter as a means to fund projects, or as recent Kickstarters like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have been using them to prove public interest in the game. I can kind of understand it to a degree, especially if you've already got a publisher willing to put up 90% of the funds, but I do think these things muddy the true costs of game development and can help cause new IPs and Kickstarters to fail because their audience doesn't understand why they are asking for certain amounts, when others have got by on less. I mean the original Shenmue reportedly cost 47 million to make so the idea that 2 million is going to cover the costs of a full 3D successor is pretty ludicrous. I would not be surprised at all if Ubisoft did this next year for Beyond Good & Evil 2 though. |

^I'd agree with you on pretty much everything you said. I'm actually more excited about Dishonored 2 over Fallout 4. Granted, Fallout 4 does look amazing in it's own right, I was never a big fan of the Fallout series, could never get into it for some reason, and i've tried to. I'm even playing through Fallout 3 as of late.
