Default Anyone else using Popcorn Time?

Have become addicted to this now that I have more time on my hands.

Popcorn Time - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Popcorn Time - Download

Video and audio quality are great and absolutely no glitches so far.

No, but I'll have to check it out.
How's the selection of movies? I'm into some pretty obscure stuff, so might it be easier to find stuff here rather than normal bittorrent sites?

I've used it in the past but for whatever reason the shows seemed to load really slowly. If it worked properly I'd highly recommend it.

I downloaded it after you said something in another thread. Only watched one film or anything on it so far. But of course it took me two days to watch it.

Have been using Popcorn Time whenever Netflix fails me for almost a year. Keep in mind that everything on Popcorn Time is from one torrent uploader, YIFY, any time something is loading slowly (AKA any relatively obscure movies) it's because that torrent has a ****ty seeder count. You can literally check YIFY's torrents around the internet on Kickass or The Pirate Bay or whatever and know exactly how well they will play in Popcorn Time, I think new versions of Popcorn Time actually display the torrent health in the menu before you play a movie anyway.

Also keep in mind that there is usually a 720 / 1080p quality option switch in the menu, 720 will obviously load faster and play smoother.
And sometimes the 1080 version of a movie is healthy but the 720 has a low seeder count, or vice versa.

Yeah, I always go with 720p since I'm watching on a computer monitor from about 18" away. I've seen 6 movies so far and none took longer than a minute or two to load.

Selection is much, much better than Netflix. Stuff that's still in the theaters is available all the time.

I'm trying to be lawful in what I do on the internet, so no. But I'd probably give it a shot if there was (is?) a legal way to do it. For example, if there was an option to only stream and not share with other users or something.

Not quite sure what you mean. From what I've read, Popcorn doesn't host the movies but is more of a torrent search engine. And once you're finished watching a flick it's gone from your PC.

Yes, but while you're watching a film, you're also uploading the movie to others. So technically, using Popcorn Time is basically pirating. At least by the laws in this country.

Were it streaming only, it would've been legal as far as I know.

The way that torrents work is that data is downloaded from everyone else who is downloading it. Like, the file is pieced together from lots of different people who are also downloading it. This is called seeding. At the very least, you must seed a file while you are downloading it, but after that you can stop, or be nice and keep seeding for others.
I'm no lawyer, but from what I've heard, seeding is more or less clearly illegal, while the actual act of downloading itself is, ironically, sort of a grey area. I'm pretty sure this is why torrenting is illegal, while, say, listening to an album on youtube is perfectly okay (as long as you weren't the one who uploaded it).

Admittedly, I still don't actually care, but I think that's what tore is getting at. I'm also probably talking out of my ass too, though.
