Somehow I only just found out about Plex. Basically it's a free program that allows you to stream your own files through other devices that have the app, or just watch/listen them through plex instead of browsing your folders.

That's nice on it's own, but what makes it special is that you can join a server for about a fiver a month which allows you to stream pretty much everything there is in regards to movies and tv shows. And constantly updates when new episodes are out. This server is available to stream through your phone or PC etc.

Yeah but it is USA only? don't like the misspelling of internet(t) and proc(c)essing. Who are these guys? I like the idea but will I join and find sorry, not available in your area, like with Netflix here, and I need a workaround? Also, why is it better, or is it, than Netflix, with whom I currently have a sub?

I think it's better than netflix because:

1. Signing up for the server is cheaper than Netflix.

2. There's more shows and films (although obviously not everything) to choose from.

3. No national restrictions.

4. If a current series is airing, the episodes are added pretty swiftly. Unlike Netflix. For example, I am watching the latest episode of The Blacklist. I can't do that on Netflix, even if it does eventually end up on there.

I only just signed up to it, but I really think it's a great platform and server.

OK I'm signed up. Says it could take up to 12 hours before membership is activated, which is fine as I wouldn't be able to do anything tonight. What's next? Is there software to download or do I get directed to a webpage?

Just check your emails, will be there already. And one will say somthing like:

"You've been invited by...To accept the invitation and view your friend's media, click the following link: I accept the invitation."

Click the link and you will notice on the left hand side of the home page that there will be a list of Movies, Anime, TV Shows etc.

OK, sorry to be a pain but ... I got one email, which says your account is now active. When I click the link it brings me to the homepage but I see nothing new. Have I to wait for another email maybe?

OK, I think I have it now. Had to click on "members", duh!
Looks very comprehensive. Impressed to see that, for instance, they have "Penny Dreadful" season two which only began like yesterday or Monday. Some as you say they don't have, but it's a very good selection, and the fact that you're not told "Sorry not available in your country" makes the membership very much worth it.

Will dig into the content later and let you know what I think. In the meantime, I think you should retitle the thread for those who don't know, as "Plex" doesn't mean anything (I just clicked out of curiosity, now I'm glad I did): maybe "Plex --- better than Netflix?"
