DK looked like a well made Ps1 platformer. Not only did the character models look great, the stages and the music for the game were also amazing for a Snes game. And you're not wrong about Yoshi's island btw, that game is regarded as one the most visually Snes games by alot of reviewers but i was never a fan of the art style they chose for the game.

If by "bad coloring book" you mean the coloring book of a child prodigy then yes. The dreamlike atmosphere and attention to detail made the game far more immersive than any previous Mario game, which were visually charming, but ultimately never felt like they took place in living, breathing worlds.
Donkey Kong looked cool, but it still looked like CGI claymation.

The artwork in Yoshi's Island is fantastic and during the time of it's release, I would go as far to say that it was revolutionary. It really let you feel like a kid when you played it, and the cute little monsters and the fact that Mario was a baby really helped that. Love that game to this day and always will.

As far as I'm concerned it was the best Mario game of all time up till that point.

On the topic of Donkey Kong...I was never a fan of any of the games. I played Donkey Kong 64 briefly, but other than that, I could never get into them. |

Either I'm petty as fuck or you guys were all expert players because I ALWAYS dropped baby Mario and had to listen to that annoying fucking crying sound to the point where that's what I associate with the game. I will give the game credit where credit is due though, it's a masterpiece in the artistic field of ear rape.
