Which is how games are played as well. If a large group of people don't like the game that is being played, the creator will either scrap it or try something new. However, if the video game does well, the creator will make more (DLC's, sequels, etc). Pretty much how art works in general. If a band releases their EP and it gets positive feedback, they're more willing to put out another album to continue that positive streak. Same with painting, sculpting, welding, etc etc. If art gets good feedback, the creator is more willing to make it better.

Different strokes for different folks, but I still think video games can be considered an artform.

Also keep in mind the amount of Youtubers that do videos on video games. The same exact rule applies. If the audience like their content, the creator will make more. Thus making the video making of video games....art.

In most cases even the making of videogames is an artform, It all starts with the conceptual art which are sketches then they research the mythology of the characters and the settings and implement all that into a visually stunning experience.

Skyrim, Gta 5 and similar open world games build a beautiful world where weather completely changes the scenery.
There have been moments where ive been flying a plane in Gta5 and just drift off looking at the sunset cause it looks beautiful.

Same with Mass effect 1,
The backgrounds on some planets you explored looked amazing.

Eh. As much as I love Mass Effect, those planets were mostly featureless copy/paste landscapes. The skies were fantastic to look at though.

I still have to mention the KOTOR games. The graphics may not have been amazing, but I think another side of the artform of video games is creating a story, and the KOTOR series did that really well.

I wasn't even thinking about the actual game play, just the characters, worlds, and graphics/soundtracks.

Me too, there are games with great storylines and gameplay but i wouldn't consider them games with exceedingly good art style, take for exmpl infamous or assassin's creed that create an immersive world without focusing on a beautiful scenery.

Those games are great but based solely on aesthetics, i wouldn't call them art.. or rather a good exmpl of it.
