Full sensory experience. Besides smell and taste of course (unless you count eating Cheetos and not bathing during a gaming marathon). Art².

Yes, they're live, but I don't have to interact with it. I just listen to it and watch. The mind is still working to take in what's going on, but it's a passive thing. I'm just noting the difference is all. I have played a ton of games, so I'm not someone inexperienced in the subject.

No, I said games contain great art. I fooking love art!! Joe Madureira was a great and popular artist who used to draw comics and quit so he could do the artwork for video games. Er go, video games contain great art. Very creative people make video games. It's not a disrespect of video games to say they are in a different area than the other mediums.

Keep in mind that I do find video games as a whole to be an artform. Think of it this way. They have museums and art walks for things people have taken pictures of / made / painted. Same with video games. They have conventiones, meet ups, and festivals to celebrate video games as a whole. Both for people who enjoy the art style of a game and the gameplay etc etc. They're one in the same.

Yes, live music is live. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that some live music and some theater is interactive (via dancing, interacting with the actors, etc.). Those things are part of the experience but that doesn't somehow make it not art.

First a knock-down, drag-out 492 page thread over whether esports are sports, and now we're debating if video games are art? Where's Guitar Bizarre when you need him? Oh, right...

Oh man! I have a whole ton of saves I make in Skyrim just as my own photography of the environments. It is seriously a gorgeous game. I have Morrowind now too but haven't gotten to it yet, but I hear fantastic things.

I have a couple of friends actually who are really into video games as art, and are trying as creators and critics to raise the awareness of their majesty.

I only posed the question because I was curious. The main point of the thread is to post your favorite environments / characters of video games that you find beautiful / artsy.

Yeah I think Jans has a point, since theater and live music (I think the former especially) is so shaped just by the audience's presence. Their reaction is integral to how the art actually comes out, though much of it is pre planned and rehearsed. Different audiences will result in different experiences with the art.
