Jon Cusack makes phone calls in the rain a lot in his movies.

It's weird how much I identify with Dick. I would love working at that record store though.

And he makes it look so endearing. Cusack is so likeable.

His sister is likeable as well.Personally I think everyone was cast wonderfully.

One of Jack Black's best (few good) performances.

His issue is,like Robbin Williams ,Jack Black is so wound for sound you can't take him seriously.

I would never deprive someone of Beefheart.

I really like him in the two Linklater films - Bernie and School Of Rock. I think I have the same problem with Robin Williams to be honest. Actors with a good screen presence that just haven't made good career choices and end up starring in poor films, with boring directors, that populate the mainstream.

Normally I can't stand Catherine Zeta Jones but in this she plays an obnoxious new age airhead who never shuts up and thinks she's smart to perfection.

I always wondered why they strayed from the UK setting in the book. The movie would have been interpreted better from the book and it always annoyed me. I did enjoy Black and Cusack but it lacked the insight of the book on many angles.

I think they do a great job of changing locations. Hornbyis a distinctively British writer but the film never seems forced or shoehorned into America, and portrays Chicago convincingly.

I agree it was well done, I just think it would have been interesting to see the other side of the coin.

There was an American take on About A Boy though, wasn't there?

Sitcom if I remember correctly.
As I find all American sitcoms about as funny as cancer of the penis I made no effort to seek it out.

I like a few, but I wouldn't expect that one to work.
