Yeah but when you run into **** like that you have to learn to just move on and go on with the broader subject. You don't need to die on the hill of the definition of aa single word and bore your audience to tears I'm the process
Jordan peterson and Sam harris had the same exact problem when they debated. They got stuck on an hour long boring grudge match over what "truth" means. Zzzzxx |

Well in this case it's sort of central to the whole matter whether you recognize inherrent cohersion in capitalism. I've seen an endless debate over what truth is though and that **** is like eating lead paint.

I think Vaush definitely came out on top in the debate with basiat... Not as much with destiny despite how annoying and apergy destiny is.
If you watch the follow up debate between Vaush and Perspectivephilisophy it seems pretty evident that Vaushhas a fairly flimsy and borderline incoherent grasp of his own ethical system/beliefs. He falls back on a vague appeal to consequentialism but he hasn't thought it out well. When questioned on it more fundamentally he retreats to borderline solipsism which he says is egoism. Really he's just an unwitting nihilist who ironically has a conscious that he can't even explain or justify while still trying to advocate for others to adopt his views. Cause you didn't have the coconuts in the first place. Sometime else just got to them before you and you're suggesting the coconuts belong to everybody... Which is what Vaush is also suggesting. I get the point of the analogy but I've never once seen it used effectively to convince someone lol |

I'm starting to feel like watching these political twitch streamers and youtubers is just the newer and more pretentious version of reality TV
Listening to vaush vs this tankie broad Mel... I'm learning absolutely nothing here it's just pure drama lol. Might as well be watching Jersey Shore. |

But beyond that I think breadtube is mostly useful as an intro to the left rather than an intellectual clique to launch any kind of movement or whatever, and there's only so much enlightenment you can get from 10-20 minute videos or a Zoom debate. So graduate to leftist podcasts. Revolutionary Left Radio is probably the most informative one I've heard but it's also a bit dry unless you just really love Marxist theory. The Antifada are more chearleadery about socialism but they have some good meaty discussions and the hosts are great if you're feeling particularly hopeless about the world. Red Library is good for diving into actual old school Marxist texts but I only just started listening so I don't have as much of an opinion on it. For more comedy focused podcasts I imagine you must have at least heard of Chapo Trap House but they seem up your alley as far their sense of humor, cynicism, and disdain for certain segments of the left. If you like *** Town then Trashfuture has that same kind of rapidfire jokes talking over each other approach but the back half of their episodes always have some pretty interesting discussions about current economic issues which you don't generally get from the left. Trillbilly Worker's Party is just kind of current events talk but the commies are laidback rednecks who take shots at Dolly Parton at least once an episode. And Behind the Bastards is a comedy history podcast rather than a leftist political show but they're all commies and in-between all the conmen and genocides they cover they talk a lot about capitalist/imperialist/colonialist atrocities and two series they did recently on two of the arms dealers behind the military buildup preceding WW1 were enough to radicalize anyone. And if you make it that far Lions Led by Donkeys is the same comedy history from leftist perspective but about military blunders. Their Soviet/Afghan War series is brilliant and hysterical.

I dunno why but I actually like listening to debates for the most part more than podcasts like Chapo. I guess I just like picking apart arguments and deriving my own insight/arguments from them... It's a bit more engaging to me. It's mostly a way to keep occupied at work
Chapo is ok but they're a bit too hipster for me.. And a bit too political junkie. I don't get half the references they make cause I'm not that tuned in to the tedious details of Washington politics. I find Sam seder from the majority report more informative than anyone else when it comes to that sorta thing but it's pretty dry so I don't listen to him much anymore The antifada is hosted by that Jamie broad from MR right? Honestly I think she's dumb as hell lol. Pretty cute though. . I will look out for some of the other suggestions you made though. Lately I've been trying to listen to perspective philosophy and his ethics debates... And some destiny debates on ethics as well. Destiny is less educated but more fiery/entertaining... Where as perspective philosophy seems to know his **** but it's pretty dry and I only understand half of it.... Last edited by jwb; 04-06-2021 at 06:17 PM. |
