John Wick and Nightcrawler
Two movies I want to see based on the previews and so far both are getting killer reviews on my fave movie review site.
John Wick - Rotten Tomatoes Nightcrawler - Rotten Tomatoes I like Rotten Tomatoes because you're not relying on a single critic but a whole bunch of them. If a movie scores over 75% it's pretty much a sdafe bet to be pretty damn good.

Saw John Wick last night on Vudu. 5 stars all the way. Keanu is beyond bad ass in it. The actions scenes are ridiculously good with killer choreography and camera work.
Right up with The Man From Nowhere as my favorite revenge flick now.

Two of my favorites from last year, somewhere in my 2014 top 10 for sure. I actually re-watched John Wick on Wednesday. It's ****ing great and a load of fun no doubt, but I think a lot of its appeal is the surprise you get on your first viewing, no doubt being a bit hesitant that Keanu can pull off another great action movie in his old age. I still love it, but on a second viewing it's a lot more obvious that Keanu and the director carry that entire movie, the rest of the cast are very typical and mediocre. Nightcrawler is fantastic all the way around and possibly my favorite Gyllenhaal performance, but I'm quite a sucker for Gyllenhaal's recent roles, he's been doing such a damn good job with thriller / dramas lately (Enemy, Prisoners, Source Code, Zodiac etc). I'll be watching Nightcrawler over and over again for a long time.

Love how they incorporated MMA moves into the various assassin's fighting styles.

Loved when the bodyguard got tossed over the balcony in the club and just crunched on the floor, lost my **** both times I saw that.

My fave was the choke hold move that Keanu put on the dude that had been giving him the most trouble in hand to hand fighting the whole movie. (right after they tried to suffocate him with the plastic bag) The way he used both of his legs for leverage is classic MMA.

I thought they were both entertaining films but lacked a certain substance to push them into greatness for me. Both had weak scripts with plenty of holes but I loved the performances from the leads and there were some badass action scenes. The nightclub scene from John Wick was amazing.

I hated the end of Nightcrawler. Like, a lot. I wrote about it in my review. I can dig it up if you'd like. |
