Never seen them, so I can't comment, but at least part of the problem with war is that the imagery that the survivors are subjected to is so shocking. Even if it was creatively shallow, that scene on the beach from Saving Private Ryan with the guy holding his guts and screaming for his mother I imagine is kind of the essence of what's horrible about war: the threat that that could happen to you, seeing that happen to people you care about, having to do that to others, and it just becoming the norm.

Not seen Paths of Glory, but I have been meaning to for a long time.
Favourite war films would have to be Larisa Shepitko's The Ascent, The Deer Hunter and Malick's The Thin Red Line. I mean don't get me wrong, there are a multitude of great stories to be told about war, it does reveal a lot about human nature.

I think The Ascent is my favourite as well, tied up with Full Metal Jacket.

Anchorman is a mediocre film with only a few worthwhile scenes that are only maybe 3/5 on the funny scale.

Agreed. Anything Will Farrell has ever done has been mediocre at best.

Stranger Than Fiction and Elf are top notch in my book.

Totally agree. It's even worse living in San Diego because asshulls are always referencing it. At least it's better than Talladega Nights.

It's like what Talladega Nights would be if it was funny.

Anchorman is a great film.

Edit: In fairness, I haven't watched it in about four years so maybe I wouldn't like it as much now.
