I know inde games are very wacky and they are an alternative to serious games with big budget franchises, but GS has a premise that is purposelly idiotic and like said, if it sells well enough this formula is bound to be replicated and exploited for a profit. And that's my real problem, because GS is not pushing any real boundaries with video games, it's just fan service and dumb. to put it another way, i think GS is fine as an individual title and as long as games like that don't become the vg industry newest fad.

There are plenty of popular indie games that aren't becoming an industry standard. I don't get your argument.
You are worried about something that doesn't need worrying about.

I would say that The Walking Dead and Wolf Amongst Us were hyped just as much. Along with Journey and a few others.
yeah, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I'd chalk the attention to Goat Simulator up to the fact that we're in that pre-E3 slump. Sure, it's kind of annoying that a dumb game like this is getting more buzz and attention than say something like The Banner Saga or Banished but again, it's a game designed for YouTube videos, which is just disguised marketing. You can't really compete with that, but unless the mod scene explodes, I have a feeling the hype for Goat Simulator will drop this time next month.

Did I seriously watch a non-fan-made, official video of Nintendo? This game is not a joke, it's honestly produced and released by Nintendo? I'm seriously shocked, this game isn't random, it's weird. *quiver*

The gaming world isn't gonna be changed by Goat Simulation, just as it wasn't changed by Robot Unicorns, Candy Crush, etc.
There have always been bull**** games, and there always will be, so that someone can make money off those casual gamers who aren't willing to invest time or money into something better.

I am completely surprised how cynical and jaded gamers are for this generation of gaming. I'm always hearing about how gaming is going to have another crash, how it's dying, that we're not ready for another generation, etc.
Call me crazy, but it seems that people were a lot more excited about previous generations than this one. It seems people are getting a little burnt out on gaming. From my experience, the 5th-7th generations had a lot of excitement and happiness surrounding them. Not so with this generation. TBH, I don't really understand it. What happened to people getting excited for the future? |

I don't think anyone has said the vg industry is dying, maybe changing but not dying.
And if ppl like me say they prefer older games is mostly because of nostalgia, we played these games when were young and they became part of our upbringing, but are they better games than new games? not likely but they mean more to us. At least in my case all i can say is, i was easily impressed as a kid but as an adult i want more, i want something i haven't seen before, instead of another COD game i wanna see games Dark souls, Shadow of the colussus, Catheryne, Games that are trying to experiment with a different gameplay. but that is cause those are the games that appeal to me, If other gamers luv COD or wthvr FPS game, good for them, all i really want from the vg industry is to offer variety for other kind of gamers, for exmpl im not a FPS fan but i luv fallout for some reason. And they offer variety but those game are overshadowed by the same popular releases, COD, Assasin's creed, GOW, etc

Since the introduction of the Wii, and the android/iphone especially, more and more non-gamers are beginning to get into playing video games.... granted to those of us who invest hours and time into equipment and stats, playing angry birds hardly qualifies, it is indeed still a game. ****, my grandpa's on level 200-somethin on Candy Crush!
Gaming has become more mainstream, and as people begin with something as simple as Mafia Wars or Farmville or something, they start wondering what else is out there. They dig deeper. Soon enough some of them are playing games that even the most elitist gamer can point a thumbs up at. Developers know this and will continue to cater to the majority of course, with little bull**** games, but they will also keep in mind those of us who want something with a little more substance.... and those who might find themselves becoming interested. High-powered computers and accessories for PC gaming, on the other hand, may be dying in sales. I prefer a PC myself but I know an awful lot of people who primarily use tablets nowadays. Likely we'll see bigger and bigger increases in price from companies like Alienware until PC gaming is the elite club of well-to-do players they've always fancied themselves to be.
