Wow, I JUST realized I never responded to you. That was a dick move and I apologize.
It was not a console that got me into gaming, it was this bad boy: With a 4GB hard drive and two, yes, TWO floppy disk drives, this thing was a machine. It also weighed 40 lbs., and I'm being serious about the weight. I played a lot of Dark Forces on it Spoiler for DARK FORCES:
Rebel Assault Spoiler for REBEL ASSAULT II:
and of course, the greatest computer game ever made, Spectre VR Spoiler for SPECTRE VR:
Rebel Assault and Spectre VR required this contraption: It's probably because of the joystick that I found consoles much more attractive than the computer, i.e., the analog sticks. I have this exact same joystick currently on a shelf in my room gathering dust. I used to have another one, but it not-so-surprisingly broke sometime ago. Holy ****! Spectre VR is available for the iPhone!?! I'm so buying that right now! |

Damn that's old school
Im very ignorant when it comes to pc gaming, i didn't grow up with a computer in my household i just had a Nes, i only had ONE friend who had a computer and the only 2 games he had were Flight simulator and Doom. lol As a console gamer ive always looked at pc gamers with a little envy, especially after seeing all the Skyrim mods and GTA mods im never gonna be able to do that on my console. Btw, i googled Spectre VR, im a little confused, Is that weird design a computer or a game cartridge?

Depends on the game. I'd normally agree that I prefer good gameplay, but then a game like Mass Effect that can have some dodgy gameplay, but the cinematic story telling makes graphics a necessity, and the game is an amazing, unique experience for it. Quote:
I'm totally a grinder. I don't want to move on with a game until I've maximized everything I can at any given point. I've even taken to grinding in Saint's Row by finding activities that give you lots of money and are quick and easy to do and then doing them over and over again until I have all my upgrades.

Most games these days have short storylines though. Aside from my compulsion to do absolutely everything it also helps to give me more bang for my buck. Makes old school Final Fantasy games a serious pain in the ass though. They generally give you just enough payoff in leveling to keep you grinding for days and days in a single patch of ground if you're prone to that kind of thing.

I don't think Ghosts n Goblins is broken just because it never ends. Definitely kind of unsatisfying though, for being so difficult. I never let gaming get to me emotionally, even as a little kid. But they were definitely crazy frustrating and adrenalizing, to the point of smashing things. Sometimes kids would cry. All of the best games of that era were beatable only by playing, dying, and repeating until you beat it. Sometimes that took months. But I still remember beating The Legend of Kage (possibly my favorite NES game of all) and that was still more satisfying than all my playthroughs of Fallout 3 and NV combined, for instance. I'm not saying retro games were better, but beating those games was a rite of passage.

Btw, Ninja Gaiden it's not that hard if you know which weapons to keep. The thing is the game doesn't tell you this in a tutorial, this is something you figure out on your own once you lost like a 1,000 times lol

This is just beating your head against a wall expecting different results though and you only end up beating it when a random set of events play out in your favor. That doesn't feel like an accomplishment to me.
