Yeah, I am absolutely loving this. It's amazing to me how the case is barely even the focus and I can be so captivated just watching Hart and Coal drive around. Two of the most three-dimensional and complex characters on television.

yeah. I haven't seen the latest episode, which most of it is stemming from? But I can see it. Then again I still think it falls in with the realm of "cop-show machismo" which the show has always very much been. I think the role types being exclusively male dominated may seem objectively more sexist, but you can't tell me csi miami is really elevating women in the medium, either.
Again, still need to see the newest episode, and do feel a need to defend the show just because it has been the first TV show i've enjoyed watching in quite some time. HBO is usually the most progressive network so it is surprising seeing them air a show with such criticisms. |

Serial killers are usually sexist in nature though when they have a certain pattern they stick to.

True Detective: The women on the show are treated badly. But there’s a good reason. |

Anyone else disappointed with the finale?

Nope, loved the way it ended.

I have a feeling it was designed to be more of a journey rather than destination kind of ending. Although I do think it was a little rushed, like it would have been better had they ended the 7th episode with Marty finding that big clue.

I credit my interest in the show more to the acting and directing than the writing.
The script was great during the first few episodes. The banter between rust and cohl is delightful. Too many subplots are confoundedly not fleshed out, however. What about the possibility of police involvement in a cover up conspiracy? Same with the church? What about cohls daughter's drawings? A lot of it was included with blatant disregard for any form of conclusion. I know the show will have more seasons, but the subplots pertaining to these characters specifically should have some, even if very abstract, resolution. Still loved the show, wasn't completely disappointed in ending, but it certainly could have been more enticing, though it was satisfactory. |
