Its really a big shame that sharks in general have been maligned by utter nonsense and fear mongering. In the Ocean they're truly a beautiful thing to watch. I've certainly seen my share both diving in Mexico and Surfing throughout California. In general its tended to be Tigers, Lemons and plenty of Nurse Sharks. the beach in question about the rouge shark is Surf Beach...fascinating that a surfer died there after a brutal shark attack and exactly two years later on the same day another died.....Fred stay away from this beach next year

if i saw a school of Hammerheads i think i would just die....i was going to mention that Discovery just finished an amazing series called North America....i think it was the 2nd episode and they were talking about the Black Fin migration to the gulf in Florida......the show this high shot and there are thousands of sharks in the water....they pan back just a little and you see the beach is literally feet away from these sharks.....and then you see this gigantic fish.....there to feed on the already large black fins.....it was a Hammerhead and it was simply amazing.....

so my personal favorite scene from this years shark week

first off notice that the shark immediately went for the floatation device not the cage itself or an attempt to taste whats inside the cage.....in the full show you know that this is the first time that guy ever got into the water with a shark...let alone an aggressive 18 foot one....he does say NEVER again

I was referring to the college kid from Santa Barbara. I watched the episode briefly with the rogue shark. Maybe hes developing a taste for humans. I guess i'll find out.

I've been surfing since 89, so I think i'm safe but statistics will catch up with you sometimes. We have the hammerhead footage on an old 8 mm reel to reel. I occassionally bust it out to make sure its still visible, gonna have to convert it to the digital age at some point. Gonna hit Baja next summer with my pop, gonna be his last trip he says before retiring from it at 72. Hes been a real inspiration for my love of the water.
