Default AFI 100 Years..100 Movies List

one of my side projects of sorts has been to try to see all the movies included on the AFI 100 years..100 movies list, because at one point, around 2010, I came to the realization...there are a lot of great movies I haven't seen. I've been tracking my progress in a Facebook note

I'm curious, how many of these have you all seen? If you have the time and patience, either bold the ones you've seen, like I did, or just omit the ones you haven't. Also, of these 100 movies, which are some of your favorites, and why?

I've asterisked some of my favorites

At least you've seen My Fair Lady! Such a good musical/movie. Both Rex & Audrey are brilliant in it

Are musicals just not your thing? Or did it just happen that you haven't gotten around to those yet?

btw, did you do asterisks for your favorites? unless we had some of the same favorites (which'd be cool!), it seems like you just kept the ones i did.

I'm a fan of Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn. I kind of had to see it. I'm not a big musical fan but really want to see Singin in the Rain because I hear Gene Kelly is a wonder in it.

I'll put some asterisks next to my favorites on the list. My actual favorite film list is a bit more obscure than whats on this list.

EDIT: Yeah I just copied your list and deleted. I didn't even see the asterisks. Mine have been substituted.

Fair enough. This list, list any other 'best of list' i treat as merely a starting point, because after all, we all gotta start someplace, right? I felt the same way about the RS top 500 albums list..a wonderful list in its own right, but by no means definitive, or the be-all-end-all. It *did* help me discover a lot of what went on to be my favorite albums though

Yes, Singin' in the Rain is wonderful. I actually saw MFL, because in my 11th grade lit class, one of the things we read was Pygmalion. Even though watching movies in school is kinda lame (from the perspective of having to see it in pieces) I liked it enough to buy it.

Generally, I really like musicals, which I realize is a total gay stereotype, but that's ok. I just find my attention holds pretty well usually when music is involved.

That's not a gay stereotype dude(assuming). Musicals, the classic ones at least, should not just be enjoyed by one gender or one sexuality. I mean if you're like REALLY into High School Musical then you have more problems that I can help you with but classic musicals shouldn't be gay. They're an important part of film history.

That list isn't that bad but I will say that Forrest Gump should be NOWHERE NEAR THAT F*CKING LIST.

yeah..agreed. Honestly, the fact that Shawshank which came out the same year isn't on that list, and FG is, is almost criminal (..wow, i just had a realization..that's turning 20 next year..along with Pulp Fiction and Lion King. I remember seeing LK when it came out..i was 6...f*ck, i feel old haha)

anyway, you're right, and your point is well-taken. I was more going for self-deprecating humor at my own expense. I'm gay, and have a habit of sometimes acknowledging when something I do falls in line with a 'stereotype' Like for example, being a Gaga fan.
