The fact that Cloud Atlas didn't even get nominated for anything really bugged me. I wish they'd just create a "Best Genre Film" category to give things the sci-fi, horror, and fantasy movies a chance and the people behind them the accolades they could use to advance in the industry.

I seen a trailer for that the other day, it looked spectacular. It's only out in cinema here.

Hah, true. In fact, I doubt that the films that he's won personal awards for would even be in the running if he hadn't been in them. The Academy loves DDL. As they should.

so like Fred i kind of step up and try to watch all nominated films for Best Picture....this year i only missed two....and really enjoyed all the ones i did see....but i have to say that for me at least i felt there was no contest with Argo....it really was just an overall great film....and i'm glad it won
i honestly think the biggest mistake this year was in Animated Feature.....i loved Brave but it seriously holds nothing to Paranorman's seriously original and super fun idea i think Jessica Chastain got robbed every time i see Daniel Day-Lewis win an award i think about "In The Name Of The Father" and how he was robbed |

Pretty thrilled with the acting awards. I'd rather have seen Sally Field get the supporting actress award, though. I love that woman, and she played a fantastic Mary Todd Lincoln.
Jack Nicholson's suit looked as though it had been borrowed from (and tailored for) Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Enjoyed Seth MacFarlane, was pleased that he dialed it back enough not to get 99% of the populace up in self-righteous arms, (just a few loons) and still pulled a few really solid punches. With the ratings boost and favorable reviews I've seen of him, I'd not be surprised if the Academy has him back next year. I mean, he does the beloved song and dance numbers that the Billy Crystal lovers are seeking out, and he's got a connection to younger audience and a more contemporary feel about him. I think he was a great pick, and I think he did wonderfully. He was exactly the kind of host they needed. I'd really have liked to see Zero Dark Thirty pick up a few more awards. I was actually kind of torn between Lawrence and Chastain for Best Actress, to be honest. Jessica Chastain is quite good. I saw her also in the horror film, "Mama," and was rewarded with surprisingly excellent acting in a horror film. Okay, so there have been great acting performances in horror films before. It just doesn't seem like there have been LATELY. While her character wasn't as fleshed out as a Jack Torrance, Norman Bates, or Robert Thorn, she went above and beyond. I think the movie would have been forgettable had it not been for Jessica Chastain. All right, and the nightmare inducing children when they were first found in the cabin. Anyway. Tarantino getting his second screenplay Oscar; noice. I hope that one day, he'll get that coveted Best Director statue. This year, yeah, they may not have won, but I was kind of miffed that he, Affleck, and Bigelow were snubbed.

Don't get me started on The Hobbit being robbed of awards. But honestly how embarrassing was Anne Hathaway? I felt bad for Jennifer Lawrance tripping but can't relate to her as an actress. I haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty but am not surprised it was nominated. I will be checking out all of the movies except the Silver Linings Playbook.
