This generation will be the death knell for my gaming on consoles. I don't like the practices of console companies as of late. I feel that Microsoft has ruined console gaming. How much nickeling and diming can one company do? I refuse to pay to play online. It's always been free, it's still free on the PC, so why charge me? It's not like I've gotten a better experience. I don't want to pay to hear people's racist and sexiest remarks. That's what online console gaming is for me. That's the experience I take away.
I've owned every major system since Atari days. Last generation I only bought the Wii and PS3. Then the PS3 was hacked and there went my enjoyment of online gaming. I found myself gaming on the PC once again. At least on the PC I had my own servers to play on. Now the PS4 is going to charge to play online. I don't want to pay to play online when it's inevitable the system will be hacked and useless to me. Even offline games have been screwed up. Waiting for patches that will never come, because it cost an arm and a leg for developers to release them. Badly coded games rushed out the door. I have zero hope for this next generation of consoles. What ever happened to the good ole days? When you popped in a disc, grabbed a controller and just played? |

The only thing that would really convince me to get a Xbox One would be Alan Wake 2, all other signs point to PS4. Either way I'm waiting it out for awhile, at least until like mid 2014 before I get a new console.

It makes me curious about two things
1) How many Xbox One Kinect sensors are going to go up on ebay the day after the console is released. 2) When Microsoft is going to release a kinect free version at the $400 USD price point to compete against the PS4. A sequel to Alan Wake would definitely make me consider it. I much prefer the look of the Xbox One controller, but after my disastrous time with the 360 I really don't feel all that inclined to be charitable towards Mircosoft. It did dawn on me though that just because the console can work without the kinect sensor, it doesn't necessarily mean game devs won't make the kinect mandatory for their games, even in ancillary ways. Much like how they can make games that require a constant internet connection, and this allows Microsoft to deflect blame by saying it's the game dev/publisher's fault. I can't see many games going this way though as it would be bad for business but it is something to think about. |

Gamescon is going on in Germany and they have a release window for the new Dragon Age Fall 2014
Playstation 4 is launching November 15 For the one or two people out there that actually own a vita. It's getting a price drop to 200 same with the ps3 console so if you want a 200 dollar blu-ray player go for it. I'm pretty sure you could find blu ray players much cheaper than that like in the 80 bucks range. There is also some upgrade promotion going on. If you buy a game for ps3 that's also on ps4 you can get the ps4 digital purchase of the game at a great discount. Whatever that means. "great discount" I'd actually like to see the charging point. Also why not just buy the ps4 version instead of spending your money on both versions? There is some Xbox One news but I can't be arsed to look it up. I'm not a fan at all if someone wants to post the Xbox One news they can go ahead and do that.

So with only a few weeks to go till launch in North America I decided to add a poll.
Has anyone pre-ordered a console? As much as I would really like to catch up on some of the games from the PS3 library, after looking at the system requirements for games like Watch_Dogs or Call of Duty: Ghosts (GTX 780 recommended? Fuck off!) I'm thinking it makes more sense to use my PC for my indie games (pretty much what I only ever play these days anyways) and then just use a PS4 for the 3 or 4 AAA games that come out each year I care about. |

^Nah. I'm sticking with PC. I was super excited when the 360 came out because there were a lot of games I wanted to play, but this time around, I don't really see much reason to spend crazy amounts of money just to be up to date with the game consoles. I love my computer, and Steam has been putting out a lot of good stuff with their sales, so i'm good for a long time.

Definitely think PC is the way to go, but after seeing some of the specs for the upcoming next gen games, my PC is starting to feel a little inadequate. It plays current gen games just fine (60 FPS in Far Cry 3 for instance), but here's the recommended specs for Watch_Dogs
Processor: Core i7 3770 @ 3.5Ghz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0Ghz RAM: 8 GB Video Card: 2048 VRAM DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5.0 or higher (see supported list) Sound Card: Surround Sound 5.1 capable sound card Supported Video Cards at Time of Release: nVidia GeForce GTX460 or better, GT500, GT600, GT700 series; AMD Radeon HD5850 or better, HD6000, HD7000, R7 and R9 series Intel® Iris™ Pro HD 5200 While my machine should be able to run it, it's going to put A LOT of strain on my processor and for the cost of upgrading to an i7 3770 I can almost buy a PS4, which will inevitably have some games I want to play. |
