I used to challenge myself by getting old games up and running with the DOS prompt. I'm thinking that the technology gap is too wide to do that now, though.

That will help you play older point and click adventure games, although you may also be able to get away by going into the properties and telling the game to launch as if it was on a Windows 98 machine. I'm on my Macbook at work right now so I can't remember exactly how to do it, but you should be able to just right click on the icon, select properties, and then there should be a compatibility tab and from there you can select how you want the game to run.
Thanks will give this a go.

The always online feature rumor for the Xbox has been debunked.

That's good to know, I'm curious if this is in some way due to SimCity's disastrous launch, or if it was just game journalism's attempt to get more website hits by creating controversy instead of reporting on actual news. I suppose it doesn't really matter, but it does not really shine much of a positive light on the journalism side of the industry.

Anyways switching gears, it appears as though more and more western video game devs will not be working on Wii U games, namely DICE (Battlefield 3, Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, and Avalanche Game (Just Cause 2). I can understand why, I mean the Wii U's specs really just barely put it ahead of the power from the PS3 and 360, but I really worry that the explosion of the first-person-shooter genre this generation experienced will make it so less and less Nintendo games come to North America/Europe, and instead we're left with the usual Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, games. I mean one could argue that has been the case ever since the N64, with Nintendo being a hard company for 3rd party developers to work with, but I still can't help but feel there's no real attempts made by 3rd party developers to actually try and develop for the Wii U.

I've been watching a live blog on the reveal for the new xbox, and it sounds and looks fantastic. Thoughts?

Honestly my only interest in this reveal was to see if that always online rumor was true or not. While it was supposedly debunked a few weeks ago with a leaked internal memo, I still wanted to hear it from the horses mouth.

The more I learn about this upcoming console generation the more I'm happy I made the investment on a semi-decent gaming PC. Everything I know so far makes it seem like this is the 7th generation all over again, but with shinier graphics and with production costs being so high that Resident Evil 6 and it's 4.8 million copies sold could still be considered a failure by Capcom, I'm not that optimistic.

I think it looks cool physically, but there wasn't a whole lot to it that made it worth my time. I did the same as you did and bought a new computer this year which works fantastically with gaming. I'm happy for the people who are hugely into the new systems etc and I hope it is as good as they say it is, but I won't be getting it myself. A lot of the features seem really cool though and I am happy that they have come so far with their technology.

I'll wait till E3 before I make my final opinion on the two new consoles, but it really does seem like it's going to be more of the same of the worst parts of this console generation.

C'est la vie.

I'm just hoping for xbox fans sake, Microsoft wasn't just making it SOUND great only to have it be a bust when people start getting their hands on it.
