I'm really not all that interested in the new console generation to be honest, mostly since my overall interest in video games has really been declining in recent years. My 360 is pretty much a netflix box now.
I say that now but I'm sure eventually I'll pick up the new Xbox but it'll be awhile after it's released. Mostly for Alan Wake 2.

The PS4 looks interesting, but as much as I like the current generation of consoles (PS3, X360 & Wii, that is), I spend 90% of my gaming time with my computer. Most games are released for it anyway. If not for a few awesome exclusives on those consoles, I would avoid console gaming altogether. So, in other words, I might buy the PS4 in a few years, if it has enough exclusives.

I never was very interested in playing games on a computer. It seems to be very popular in general on the site. I have always loved the Playstation and everything about it, so i've never strayed. There used to be a time where the graphics of computer games outshined the consoles, but that doesn't seem all that apparent to me anymore.

I thought this too, but the graphic possibilites are immensely higher on PC. Console games have a limit, PC games come out, have multiple options for your PC specs, but where I love the whole concept of PC Gaming, is you can alter it to your liking. Some people that have the computer for it, say **** it, I want this game to look like I'm looking through a window. They get pretty damn close.

Xbox Live's Major Nelson » #XboxReveal :
It'll finally be nice to put some of the rumors to bed to say the very least. The biggest rumor is that the console will feature an "Always Online" feature, where you must have a constant internet connection, even if you're playing a single player game. The other big rumor is that the user will have to install a physical copy of the game on the hard drive, which will somehow render the disc useless for re-sale, which in itself would eventually kill the used game racket GameStop employs. Like I said though, these are just rumors, and I'll wait to make my judgement on the console. Either way I'm probably just going to stick to my PC. I'm having more fun with little $10 indie games and there's so many coming out that there's always something new to try. |

I'm going to be really disappointed if the used game rumor is true. I get most of my games used...it's a very rare occasion that I pay full price. In fact, the latest God of War was the first game I paid full price for in maybe 5 or 6 years.
This may just be the time I return to the PC...it was my go to choice when I was in high school, but after that I could never afford one with enough power. Now that I'm finally getting into the working world and making some money, I can't wait to build a PC. I used to be all about that. I kept my old 500 Mhz Gateway alive well past its prime by Frankensteining it with cheap upgraded parts.

Total boner for PS3. Everyone says Netflix looks better, but adjusting the brightness on my TV, PS3 looks just as good. I say that having had an XBox 360 hooked up just as well, and adjusting TV settings.
I also prefer PS3s user interface. I like the availability of games, and the controller better than 360. PS3 exclusive games are also wildly superior, although I vaguely miss Fable.

I'm looking at getting a PS3 around November where I'm hoping to get a killer deal as someone is selling it to make room for a PS4. It also helps that that's when my Xbox Live subscription is up so I can cancel it but still get to keep my Netflix, Hulu, and HBO GO subscriptions going on my big screen TV.
The more I read about this generation of consoles the more I think I'm just going to stick to my PC. Besides BioShock: Infinite and Far Cry 3 I really haven't been that impressed from a lot of games from the last few years. The games that have been impressing me are all under $20 just about all indie PC/console games. I mean the major reason I want a PS3 is so I can play Journey and a few other indie games with the only major exclusives I care about being Heavy Rain and The Last of Us. Duga I would totally recommend building your own gaming PC. You can build a halfway decent one for under $700 and there are a lot of good games being released on the PC, and with the implementation of Kickstarter it only seems to be getting better. |

As everybody is talking about pc games, wonder if anybody knows how to run a windows 95 game on a windows 7 pc. I've got Curse of Monkey Island cd and can't play it. I've read a number of different ways to get it to run, but just wondered if anybody here had a a quick fix solution?

That will help you play older point and click adventure games, although you may also be able to get away by going into the properties and telling the game to launch as if it was on a Windows 98 machine. I'm on my Macbook at work right now so I can't remember exactly how to do it, but you should be able to just right click on the icon, select properties, and then there should be a compatibility tab and from there you can select how you want the game to run. |
