I don't see how they can improve dramatically on this generations current graphics, but technology always has a way of outdoing itself.
I assume people said that when the Atari was about to become redundant. I'm not too sure about the emphasis on camera play, but as long as that's an option and not a compulsory part of gaming then I'm all for the new console. |

Consoles are becoming more of a social network, and forgetting to focus on the actual gaming itself, still waiting for Xbox announcement (anyone know when it's coming?) and if it takes a single step in the wrong direction, I'm switching to PC gaming.
Requiring Kinect or an Internet connection, disappointing to say the least, hope the latter doesn't happen. |

My guess is Microsoft will have something at E3 in June, and I wouldn't be too surprised if they're shooting for a holiday 2013 release to compete with the PS4. I just bought a decent gaming PC and am most likely going to sit the first few years of this console generation out unless something REALLY catches my eye. The fact of the matter is that no new IP's this generation really struck a chord with me in any meaningful way that makes me want to buy a new console so I can play the next ones.

I'm gonna be building a gaming PC and ditching consoles at the end of this gen fwiw, not enough exclusives anymore to make consoles worthwhile. JRPGs used to entice me, but they've gone the way of the dodo with 1 or 2 exceptions |

I'm pretty sure they are going to show the actual console when they do it because they took a dig at playstation for announcing but not showing theirs.

The initial investment on a PC will likely exceed that of a console., but you will save boatloads of money on games with Steam. Also with a PC you're getting more than just a gaming console so the price is justifiable imo. I mean, console gamers have to buy PCs too right? You're only spending a couple hundred more to make it feasible for modern games |

The only reason I'd want a laptop is it's mobile, but I still have to see which way my money is going to go. I don't think I'd be able to build my own computer, if there is any soldering involved I'm out. But I just have a feeling there is going to be more of involvement with companies charging within games on consoles. EA has already started the trend, it's not enough that your already paying for Xbox Live, but if you want to play online for a game, you HAVE to buy it new, buying used seems like it will fade, and if does indeed go that route I'm doing PC, you have more control over your game, you can enhance it to your liking, and it just has more advantages.

I'm pretty sure there's no soldering in the building of your own desktop, but it will take time and unless you know what you're doing, it may not go smoothly. Basically I'd suggest adding up the price of all the components you would need, then compare that price to gaming PC's you can buy that are pre-built, and then factor in how much your time is worth to you. That's what I did and ended up buying a pretty decent Levono gaming PC for under $600 with my tax return. If you decide to look at buying a pre-built one, look at sites like TigerDirect, and NewEgg, and compare reviews. Also look at what kind of games you're interested in it running, look at what the specs are for them and decide what you need. While Alienware does at least offer some good rigs, remember that they're going to be more expensive because they're using custom cases, pretty lights, and have a brand name they can use as a reason for that price (see Apple).
