Nocturne is the best Rpg ever made..

The Shin megami tensei games are putting the FF Games to shame, they are doing more with less, in fact Atlus is putting SquareEnix to Shame when it comes to Rpg games

i used to be loyal to the brand SquareEnix..
their SNES and PS1 rpgs were the best.. From mystique Quest to FF10 and Star Ocean

but in comparison to let's say Persona, the gameplay isn't as great..

The FF games have become like this epic big budget adventures.. it has lost the essence of traditional rpgs, it looks amazing but the gameplay sucks

JRPG's were my bread and butter back in the day. I used to pour countless hours into them. Nowadays its hard for me to play them anymore since there so time consuming haha. So if I had to pick like a top 10 of my all time favorites it would look like this

10. Chrono Cross
9. Tales of Vesperia
8. The Legend of Dragoon
7. Final Fantasy VIII
6. Baten Kaitos Origins
5. Tales of the Abyss
4. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of The Cursed King
3. Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and The Lost Ocean
2. Final Fantasy IV
1. Chrono Trigger

2D old school JRPGs aside, I find it hard to play the new ones because the story lines, artwork, characters, dialogue, etc, etc, etc are so cliched and recycled that I couldn't give less of a fuck if you put a gun to my head.

You can thank the westernization of RPGs for that.

Sure, but the art design has still been mindlessly recycled for the last fifty million years and the story lines are still pretty much the same (young boy/girl has to fight en evil empire bent on conquering the world with magical technology.) I mean if you wanna make another Final Fantasy ripoff game, then just call it Final Fantasy Ripoff MMMDCCLVIII.

Even that being true, there really isn't many JRPGs being released now. The majority of those kind of rpgs are being released are on hand helds. You really don't see them on home consoles much. I find that the WRPG like Tuna mentioned are way to abundant now. Developers will put rpg elements in just about everything now.

But my original point was that for me anyway, just trying to play through another 50 hour plus adventure seems like a daunting task. My attention span isn't what it used to be.

Well, does action RPGs count? If so, I'd vote for The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time, it was mindblowing at the time. But if that is not RPG enough, I can also proclaim my love for Final Fantasy VII and IX, Deus Ex and Morrowind. Hell, Planescape:Torment was awesome too, but sadly the last disc got ruined before I could finish the game. Don't ask me how, it's a mystery. It was the only isometric PC RPG I fell in love with. Baldur's Gate was interesting, but not really essential to me, while the sequel got boring fast, and Icewind Dale pwned me so hard in the first quest I gave up, lol. The first Suikoden was also pretty great, by the way. But as you can see, Zelda is my favourite (A Link to the Past and Twilight Princess is right behind Ocarina of Time, three brilliant games!).

RPGs is my favourite genre, though these days there seems to be elements of RPG in almost every game out there. Currently playing Skyrim and Mass Effect 3, both great games.

I'm the same. I still play the damn games, but they take forever to finish. I started Skyrim sometime in December, and I'm nowhere near finishing it yet. 10 years ago I would've pwned the game in marathon gaming sessions, while these days I have other things I also want to do.
