The Official 2013 Oscar Nominations Thread
Spoiler for The List:
For the most part I think it's been a pretty mediocre year in film, with my favorites all being genre flicks, so there's very little here the list that makes me care all that much. I really hope ParaNorman wins Best Animated film though, although I have a feeling it's going to have a tough time against the more bombastic and advertised Wreck-It Ralph and Brave. I have no doubts that Daniel Day-Lewis will win Best Actor an Steven Spielberg will win Best Director, but the Best Actress category does have some interesting selections and from what I've heard Anne Hathaway is a shoe-in for Best Supporting Actress in Les Miserables. Overall though, I really wish a "Best Genre Film" category would be added to the list because Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Returns, Prometheus, Looper, and Cloud Atlas are all great films that deserve some kind of recognition beyond some category like "Best Makeup" that nobody gives a shit about. It may also help add some credence and credibility to help auteur directors like Guillermo del Toro get risky projects made, like At The Mountains of Madness (Fuck you Universal!) |

Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor. By far. He won the same oscar for his role in Inglourious Basterds, so he'll win this one for sure.
But yeah, Lincoln will go home with the most, since it already has 12 nominations. Life of Pi sure got a lot as well, but I haven't it seen it. Can anyone vouch for it?

From what I've heard it's a great movie from a visual perspective, but there's this whole underlying message of "this movie will make you believe in God" that a few people whose opinions I sometimes pretend to respect didn't like. I don't care for Ang Lee at all so I read the Wiki synopsis of this movie and here's what it basically says

I was very surprised that Beasts of the Southern Wild got three major nominations. I thought it was a possibility that it would get a best picture nom and a best actress nom but best director over Bigelow and Affleck? Shocked really.
I'm really pulling for Phoenix and Seymour Hoffman because both of them just blew me away in The Master. I still need to see Amour and when I do, I know I'll be pulling for Heneke for best director. The dude deserves it. Overall going to be a pretty boring ceremony besides a few awards. I always watch though. |

i really think Affleck was seriously robbed of the best direction nod
other than that i feel this is a good line up with the obvious choices....i do think Hathaway truly deserves her nomination....she was amazing |

Yeah I think Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow were kind of given the short end of the stick when it comes to Best Director. I'm sure they'll both walk away with some kind of consolation prize, but it does seem weird how both of their movies can be up for "Best Picture" but the directors behind them aren't up for Best Director.

i have to admit that at first i had absolutely no interest in seeing Zero Dark Thirty.....but with each preview i see....i kind of want to see it for Jessica Chastain's performance alone....and there is no denying that Hurt Locker was a damn good film
