The Console Face-Off
Which is the better console and why? Nintendo? X-BOX 360? PS3? For example which games are on one and not the other?
Let's all reminisce to the 90's and how Sega touched your life. What was the first game you bought? Mine was World of Warcraft. |

Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time) - my childhood and adulthood. |
To answer your questions:
1) PS3 is the best console unless you really love online gaming and need an optimum interface layout (at a cost of $60) or if you're just really into Nintendo franchises 2) First game I bought? Hard to remember, my parents bought me PC games like Lemmings and Ultima VI in the early 90s and Game Boy games like Tetris. |

n64 better
why? mario 64 ocarina of time goldeneye |
Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3 and Medievil. PS1 all day. Mario Bros on the SNES is the daddy but it's hard to beat those classics.
|
yeah resident evil was great too. ps1 is a blast no doubt, it just doesnt have that same nintendo magic

to me, the N64 does win for splitscreen multiplayer but the PSX is far superior for single player Plus PSX had 5 good games coming out for every 1 N64 game. It was quality and quantity to just N64's quality. |

-Metal Gear Solid -Resident Evil games -Final Fantasy games -Gran Turismo games -Driver -Chrono Cross/Xenogears/Vagrant Story/any other Square game that's just the tip of the iceberg |
most of those square games were virtually the same as their snes counterparts just with some really ugly polygons
Driver? What did driver do that was so groundbreaking? ill give you gran turismo. Ocarina of time added a lock on mechanic, mario 64 was the first true 3d camera. Goldeneye was the first good fps tailored to consoles |

The Square games are masterpieces of the JRPG genre, nearly every single one of them. But since we want to get so technical, Goldeneye wasn't the first FPS on consoles and Ocarina wasn't the first game with lock on. I'll give you Mario 64 with the camera though. |
My favourite consoles from each era that I've played have been Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, PS2, and then PS3.
I'm one of the few that preferred the Genesis to the SNES, and that's probably because I owned a Genesis and only played the SNES at friends' houses, but some of those games on that system were absolutely incredible (ToeJam & Earl, Strider, etc.). N64 was the furthest ahead of its competition and I consider it the best console ever. The sheer amount of classic games it had, along with the replay value that a lot of them provided, was absolutely incredible. I can't even tell you how much time I invested into that thing growing up. Hell, the Mario Party games alone probably took a year of my life. PS2 was awesome and the best system for its generation, but the GameCube was great as well due to some amazing exclusives (Zelda, Resident Evil 4, etc.). Everyone always seems to praise the PS2 a lot, and rightfully so, but GameCube was definitely underrated. I'm kind of indifferent in the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 debate. Both have their positives, but I'm just a little more tied to PS3's exclusives, notably Uncharted. |

I acknowledged those games were groundbreaking and have a big legacy man. I was never trying to discredit their importance, but PSX has big name games of their own that were super important and influential too, and that I personally like better. |
arbitrary? they were the pillars of modern game design.
Playstation games were very good, but were based on what nintendo had already acheived, especially spyro and crash bandicoot. Titles you listed were RPGS, very well made rpgs, but not innovative or as good as paper mario (lets be honest). |

I think the PS2 was the most well-rounded console. Good amount of playstation franchises, and a huuuuuge range of 3rd party titles. All ages, and all levels of commitment to self-proclaimed 'hardcore gamer-ness'.

Will this be considered trolling if I say Steam Box ?:> I know it's not out yet and god only knows what will be in it, but something that looks and works like a console but runs PC games and gives you all the gaming options a PC offers (like for example modding your games) sound like a win to me.
my first console was atari 2600 but let's face it, it was crap. Especially since there was no way of getting cartridges in my country so I was stuck playing the 128 or so games it came with, half of which were unplayable from the start. ps3 move is very well done, I enjoy it very much, so I guess my vote goes to ps3. |

The Magnavox Odyssey² was my first console and I remember being barely able to read when my dad brought it home. It had a keypad that looked like something that might be in my kindergarten classroom and I really liked looking at numbers and letters. Atari 2600 was, of course, much more fun and then the Commodore 64 came to me which was technically a PC but I only ever used it for games. Then I wasted my elementary school days with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, and Xbox360 are my current favorites only because I happen to have them. PS2 was the only one I bought by choice. The next console I'll buy is whatever's the cheapest a few years after it's release. |
What is the steam box ?
Not much is known at this moment, but Valve invested so much into this that I think it will be released next year as they promise. |
My favourite at the moment is my PS3 - free online play or if you choose to pay the same amount as the default Xbox service you get a premium membership (discount on DLC content and free games every now and again - like last week was Bioshock2).
Though the best console ever in my eyes was the SNES. I honestly don't remember the first game I bought but the first one I received was the original Metroid. Christmas 88... also remember turning off the game and getting the Lockerbie bombing news footage too Steam box looks really awesome too but I'm not holding my breath on that. Probably 2020 before it hits shelves. |
its actually coming next year
Valve confirms Steam Box coming in 2013, says it will compete with next-gen consoles - Video Games | Games Reviews Online in India - Video Games | Games Reviews Online in India then again this is valve so "next year" may also mean never |
It makes me incredibly curious if Valve is going to release the much anticipated Half-Life 2: Episdoe 3 as a launch title to entice people into buying one, then a regular release a few months later. I'll admit, if that's the case I'd be camping out for one.

My first game...probably red alert 1. My cousin had it, and it introduced mt to rts's which I stuck with for a long time. All the westwood/CnCs, WoW, CoH, DoW, SupCom.
Had a 360 for four years, it died a year ago, am getting a ps3 soon. I played the xbox exclusives I wanted to, and a few games coming on the ps3 look too good to miss. |
I think the first game that I, personally, bought was Guitar Hero. I know, I'm such a child. :p:
As far as classic consoles, N64 and Gameboy Color all the way, yo. |
